2016 Coaching Search
It appears we have the first opening of the year. According to CBS Sports, Ron Turner reportedly fired by FIU.

They start 0-4 and that seems to be the end of Ron Turner.

Surprised Turner got hired in the first place, they should've never fired Cristobal anyways. I expect Rod Carey of NIU to be on the chopping block pretty soon as well.

There will be a lot of people on this list in the next few weeks let alone by the end of the season. Hard to see Hazell of Perdue not here by the end of the year.

Arkansas State's head coach could be on this list going 0-4, and lost to Central Arkansas did not help.

Some great golfing in South Florida. I nominate Tubs for the next coach of FIU.

Lincoln University (D-II – MO): Head coach Mike Jones has been let go. Outside linebackers coach Lee Johnson will serve as interim head coach.

Not to defend him or denigrate him, generally an accident such as this one, where no one was under the influence of anything, doesn't result in a criminal case. At most he would be cited for unsafe driving or the Ohio equivalent of that. At the end of the day it's extremely unfortunate, but it seems as if the cyclist will make a full recovery.

So, how truly serious is Purdue about football? It looks like they are finally cranking out a $65M new football facility, which is great, but the Purdue forums are tossing out names like Pirate Coach and Hatter and setting up for disappointment if they're going to pay a coach in the B1G a tick over $2M a year and pinch pennies...

Hazell will get his $4M+ to go away for two years for thanks for being the centerpiece of PU's lack of football commitment. Most all B1G schools offer what Purdue can, with shinier toys, to boot.

Being cheap isn't so thrifty after all. Danny Hope made $950K, which was about half of what Joe Tiller made before him. Can't blame Hazell for 7x his Kent State paycheck, but he didn't see the big picture, either.

RE: 2016 Coaching Search
Schiano would make a lot of sense for Purdue. But really what they need, just as Kansas does, is someone who can figure out a way to recruit a roster full of P5-level talent. Until they get that, no amount of motivation or game-day coaching skills will make much of a difference there. The one bright side for Purdue is that they're in the west division.

It's always hard to recruit solid coaches when you're a P5 bottom feeder (and in a basketball state), you can never get the top G5 head coaches or elite P5 assistants. KU is finding this out the hard way, IIRC their coach came from A&M as a position coach with no HC experience outside of high school, which is a pretty low hurdle for a Big 12 program.

I don't know how you exactly fix it unless you get lucky with someone who turns out to be Bill Snyder or get a coach who gets you back to .500 and obscure bowls so you're more attractive to a bigger name (see Illinois). Purdue was in the second position after Danny Hope but completely whiffed with Hazell, who looks like a one-hit-wonder at Kent State. With IU on the upswing it may be very difficult to move up very far.

Tweet from Dan Wolken.

"Pretty much every assistant at Ohio State and some at Michigan are likely to be candidates for Purdue, I’m told."

If Boston College makes a change, I would think Schiano would be a possible fit there.
