RE: Ron Turner out at FIU
As for Diaz, FIU would be wise to put him in the short list but the recent decision making there might lead me to believe otherwise. There is no reason to believe that he would not be interested. He might want some facility commitments or something like that but it would be smart on both sides. Manny hasn't gotten much of a sniff as a HC since being the early fallout guy at Texas. I think he would listen. FIU would be dumb not to talk to him. But then again.

RE: Ron Turner out at FIU
The thing about Diaz is that if he really wants to be an HC, FIU is a great place to start. The money wouldn't matter to him because if he was successful, the money would come in truckloads when a P5 came calling. You gotta start somewhere and FIU would be in a hot recruiting zone. It's beyond me how FIU and FAU can't get the fastest guys in this conference.

Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze coached at Arky St. for pete sakes.

Diaz is obtainable if they went after him first and he had a true desire to be a HC.

Anyone considering FIU has to ask the question, "is this a dead end job, with no real chance for success?"

He could make more than he would at a lot of schools working for ESPN in 2017 if no jobs he wants comes open.

Absolutely, he'll get big money offers, but I expect he could get a decent low seven figure contract from your favorite network, which is plenty of money to sit out one season if he doesn't feel the right fit is there this offseason.

What does Ron Turner know about DEFENSE? If he's good at defense, I know where we can find him a job in Louisiana.

FIU lost to UCF ... 53-14. Defense doesn't exactly look like a strong suit 03-lmfao

This is just silly. How is there no real chance for success? One would coach a team embedded in the most fertile recruiting area in the nation. Ron Turner was an incredibly incompetent coach who insisted on running a pro-style offense despite not having the bodies to do it. It doesn't take a genius to realize it is much more likely to be successful at a school like FIU if you actually utilize their strengths (speed and quickness) rather than trying to force their weaknesses to work (lack of size, especially on the O-line). He tried to force his Big-10 crap to work at FIU... and well... It didn't. He was a horrible hire. The firing of MC was and is irrelevant to what Turner did, other than the fact that it was the same dumb AD that fired MC (which I think was ultimately the right call) who hired Turner.

FIU needs to hire a young coach who can bring a lot of energy to the program and help turn it around. I really think doing something like what UCF did with their hire would also work really well at FIU. UCF is likely quickly turning around their program after an 0-12 season. Make the right hires and you will go places as a program.
