RE: Circle of Unity
That folks who take the stance that this isn't politics just play sports. I get that. But these are STUDENT athletes first and foremost. And what bw is doing is mentoring these kids to channel energy, passion, and frustration into something positive in a non violent way. What they take away from this is far greater than us as fans who just want to tune out for a few hours and enjoy a game.

Circle of Unity
Coach Wilder is doing a pretty awesome job in leading his team. I'm proud of how he's handling things and seems to be an excellent guide and mentor.

A couple of the posts on this topic on the conference board are just horrendous.

That doesn't seem to change. It seems to be the same suspects as well. There will always be negativity no matter how the program performs on/off the field.

RE: Circle of Unity
Some real idiots with letters to the editor this morning. It makes me mad that some are trying to spin this circle of unity as Bobby and the team supporting BLM and even shooting cops. Its a circle of unity, and I think its a great response to both the problems our african-American friends are facing with the police and to the divisive and offensive protests of some other athletes. We've even invited the police and military to participate for goodness sakes. People should inform themselves before spouting off a letter to the editor.
I also respect the coach's decision to let the kids where the BLM shirts at pre-game stuff last week. First, its freedom of speech and expression for the players. Second, BLM is not founded on anti-cop or racist or black supremecist ideals. Yes, some bad people have become associated with the group, but painting all BLM supporters that way is just as bad as painting all tea party supporters as racist jerks too. Both were/are good movements that have had some bad people try to hijack their momentum to further different agendas.

Agree with you for the most part, with the sole (but important) qualification that the tea party is the wrong comparative.
BLM was formed on a lie -- that our police are institutionally and indiscriminately shooting our black youth. That is the core message, and it is vile. Our students do have a right to wear shirts supporting that cause, but our fans likewise have a right to say that they are wrong in doing so.
The tea party was formed as a tax protest. There is nothing that is a lie about that message. You may not like many of the folks who are portrayed at tea party rallies (I certainly don't), but the core message is one of fiscal concerns taking precedence over social concerns.
Your better comparison would be to Confederate flag wavers. Some of them may sincerely believe that the flag simply represents heritage, and not a blight on American racial relations. I think they are wrong, and would be very much bothered by any players (or fans) sporting Confederate flag t-shirts. But if you agree with me that the Confederate flag is offensive, then you really should reconsider your views on BLM. They are no different.

RE: Circle of Unity
I was waiting for a rebuttal so that both sides got a a fair chance to make their points.. This is now too political and as such will be closed.
