When I got on the shuttle bus at the airport to get my rental car, a huge guy was driving, probably 6' 300+ lbs. I had my EMU hat on and he says "hey, I played at EMU, back with Charlie Batch and LJ Shelton, man those guys were awesome." Started talking football and turns out he was a DLineman who ended up blowing his knee out his freshman year. Never fully recovered, and left the program after 2 years. Nice guy. Lives in the local area and said he hadn't even followed EMU in years and years, let alone went to a game.

Then I walk up to the car rental counter and a 50 something looking guy see's my hat and again says "hey, I went to EMU back in the day." Start talking football again and the first thing out of his mouth is "what are they, about 0-3 right now?"

Guarantee he hasn't been to a game, ever. Pretty much our local fanbase in a nutshell. Sadly.
A lot of EMU alums are not proud to be associated with EMU. I can speculate as to why, but I have seen it repeatedly.

Hm, actually this coaching staff gave him a chance to be a QB, I don't think most of us thought that Bell was going to be an actual QB, that he would switch to another position like RB or DB. I was surprised that he came out of nowhere to win the starting job CC's first year here. His stats at Ferris St tell the story almost an equal amount of TDs and INTs added to his injury history explains why he lost his starting job to Roback. Reggie is quite the athlete and I wish him well at Div II Ferris St. and all the success at that level.

Yes I've experienced that too, oh you went to EMU, yes I do and like to go to football games have season ticket, I've never been to a game is the usual answer. Do you go to basketball? No I've never been to a game there. And honestly EMU's alum package for football is a very inexpensive family way to experience it.

Could/should work to our favor as much as they throw the ball.

Our guys can't catch, so we're going to go back to running the ball. Actually it will be interesting to see what we do now that Morgan has been named the starting QB for the game.

Pouring like the dickens right now. Think I saw a 70% chance of rain on Saturday.

Watch out - we're still tied for first in the MAC East right now. 04-cheers

We suck, don't worry about us. Yes, I would definitely try to run the ball down our throat, our DLine is a serious weakness.

Bell got a fair chance to play QB. He was griping that he had to share time with Roback last year and it didn't allow him to get into a rhythm. I think he just didn't make the best use of his chance. Still, it's too bad he left. I'm glad to see he's playing and will be running track.

Bell's best sport is track. He was one of the top hurdlers in CA his senior season and would have made an immediate impact at EMU if he had been allowed to run. As he said in the story, CC want's his guys concentrating on FB. It's one of the few things I think he's wrong about.

At EMU and at other schools track guys have had very successful FB careers. The one that comes to mind is Ron Woodson. He won league and was All-American in both sports at Purdue. At EMU we've had successful guys play both sports. Lionel Dalton, mentioned earlier in this thread, shot put for a while and did well. We had a RB very recently that also high jumped. Can't think of his name right now.

There is an athlete at a Saginaw school that plays football, basketball and track. He won the state long jump. WMU offered him a football scholarship, but I thought he'd be a fine match for EMU because WMU doesn't have a track program. I was told by someone who should know that CC wanted to avoid multi-sport guys.

Totally ridiculous if true. We should be taking ADVANTAGE of the fact that we have a very good track program and cross-marketing that to good football players. Look at the best track athletes who are also good football players and get the offers out. Speed, speed, speed. This Saginaw kid is the perfect example. That's exactly how you go head to head with WMU in recruiting, and in this case probably beat them.

Ryan Brumfield, Donald Scott, Chris Roberson.... The list of football guys who participated in track goes on and on...
There are times when Football and Track makes sense. There are times when it doesn't.
I always thought that it had to be extremely difficult for a guy like Donald Scott to be in Wide Receiver shape and then get in Triple Jump shape, only to switch back to Wide Receiver shape.

Huge game for both teams. BGSU runs an up tempo offense and trieds to get in a lot of plays. BGSU is reportedly going with a RF QB. His first start. Neathery will likely show him a lot of looks. Hoping the DL keeps up the good work and applies the heat to the kid. Stuffing the run will be important.

Offensively EMU can help themselves big by controlling the line of scrimmage. Grind out the yards on the ground and take the pressure off the passing game.

? (I should know the answer but don't):

Did Donald Scott play his 4 years of FB?

Did he have another unused year (5th) for T&F?

This scenario is possible but very unlikely:

Year 1 - 4 FB only

Year 5 - T&F only

The point is: a player would have 4 years of FB eligibility and 4 years of T&F eligibility. Both have to be taken within 5 academic years.

Of course, a player can play either or both sports as he wishes.

E.g., a player could do FB in years 1 - 4. T&F in 3 of those 4 years (outdoor T&F).
And indoor and outdoor T&F in year #5.

OR a player could do T&F (indoor, outdoor) during his frosh FB redshirt year and outdoor his 3 remaining years of T&F eligibility.

I'm stunned they're still favored. The only thing that I can think of as to why is our history. Nothing, on paper, would suggest BG beating us.

No, I'm quite sure he did not. I'm not sure about T&F.

Scott was obviously a superb triple jumper. In football, you may remember that he had some trouble with catching the ball. Still, it's too bad he didn't continue working on it and get better.

He sat out track in year 4 to focus on football and compete in track during year 5.
