Carey did not make his players available to the media afterward. He did receive a measure of support from NIU athletic director Sean Frazier.

I can't think of three crappier adjoining states than Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Yes, there are some nice communities, but compared to the rest of the country there's very little redeeming qualities. Chicago, with all it's problems, is a world class city and the only thing in these three states of real value. But then again, the people who live in Indiana, Ohio and southern Illinois don't take too kindly to city folk livin'.

I get it that this is a discussion board devoted to sports but as someone who has been an off and on part time adjunct professor throughout my career I cant help but evaluate the MAC institutions through a broader lense.

I have not been to Columbus. It's just easy to tease Ohio. I realize Illinois is a dumpster fire without Chicago. Kinda like the the Cleveland cavaliers without Lebron. See, like I said...easy to tease Ohio.

If it weren't for family, friends, and NIU i would never even visit Illinois. The politics, the corruption, the taxes, the lack of good career opportunities, the high cost of living...all for what?

The only nice area is DuPage County. Chicago is fun to visit but not a place i would want to live.

What has now been realized by the NIU administration is that the NIU football team being good has no positive impact on the University. The program loses money whether winning games or not and the notion of a positive 'brand' relative to football has not served to enhance the University mission in any way. For certain, football branding has done nothing for enrollment, which will remain the biggest concern on campus even if the team goes 0-12. STF made his bed by extending the football coach's contract and he will have to live with it. In three years when the coach's contract expires the University may or may not chose to begin rebuilding the program, time will tell. Meanwhile, I wouldn't be surprised if Director Frazer left NIU soon for an Associate job with a P5 school. His P5 Director prospects are gone with his dismantling of the NIU football program.

I think the state budget crisis + crime perception is having a larger negative impact on the university that has over shadowed NIU football success. I do believe NIU has gained strides from a national awareness perspective because of football, but Illinois families already know NIU and what they know they dont like. But i digress, we already beat this horse in another thread.

Bingo. Except STF won't have to live with anything...he extended the head coach contract , but he'll be gone & won't give a rat's azz what chaos he's left behind.

STF will have a hard time moving on though. He's going to have to accomplish more here before that happens.
