Kennedy is the most overrated president in US History. Not saying he couldn't have been good if he wasn't assassinated, but he's certainly overrated based off of what actually happened the three years he was in office.
That being said, not whole lot resembling the current Democratic Party to Kennedy.

True, although understandably so, for non-political reasons. The American people of 1963 felt personally violated/traumatized by his assassination, and telling pollsters JFK had been "the best president" (or one of the best) was a way of validating those feelings, IMHO. This was tendency was greatly compounded by the assassination of RFK a mere 4-5 years later.

This. Obama and Hillary are as like JFK or Harry Truman as Donald Trump is like Eisenhower or Tom Dewey or George H.W. Bush.
