Bowling Green: best season ever, lose their QB and coach. Instead of getting a new coach from the same tree, they get an assistant from T Tech.
And now they're terrible.
Scott Cowen must have advised them.

Why would you take a coach from T Tech uhhhh!!? If UH loses Herman I would hope we would be smart enough to promote either orlando or major. Both in my opinion will make great coaches.

Exactly. Why, indeed?
Just like we should have promoted RR. And I'm sure BG had better options.

RE: ***Official Memphis vs Bowling Green Game Thread*** (9/24)
Don't go too far with that analogy. Memphis lost its QB, coach & also didn't hire a coach from the same tree - although Memphis attempted to lure Barry Odom back from MO where he had taken the DC job the previous year having had the DC job at Memphis prior but held out & got the MO head coaching job. Memphis has fared pretty well with Norvell, the youngest HC in the FBS. Defense appears substantially improved, new QB has been productive & improving through 2 games, with talent at RB & among several receivers. For now only the O-line is below expectations & they were thought to be a strong point with past experience. Time & games will tell........

I got all respect for oldtiger but you can add me to the camp of tigers that wished we had not got that coach from Texas tech despite all his accolades. I know he has not coached a game yet and I am hoping I am proved wrong and he turns out to be an awesome hire.

I saw a lot of Tubby when he was at UGA. He was very good. He was good enough at UK to win a nat'l title & gave MN & TTU some of their best BB ever. I say give him a chance before you wish for someone else. We haven't had a real floor coach since Kirk (yeah, I'm including Calipari as a poor floor coach), & it will be distinctly different from what most any Memphis fans can remember or for the youngsters who have never seen the difference a good floor coach can make. SMU knows. A good floor coach puts guys in a position to be successful where they are most likely to have success & helps them in the process to be better. We haven't seen that in a long time at Memphis.

Yes. I apologize for dragging that out, but I thought that the references to Naismith, Iba, Wooden, NABC might have lit a bulb.

Apologies for temporarily derailing this thread, but I don't think any of us could agree or disagree with the below comment without looking it up........
We may have to go back to Johnny Jones' one year as HC to find a game that we won with less talent than the opposition. I sure can't remember it happening with our last 2 coaches.

Lazily copied from Wikipedia:
AP College Coach of the Year (2003)
Naismith College Coach of the Year (2003)
NABC Coach of the Year (2003)
Henry Iba Award (2003)
Jim Phelan Award (2005)
2× MVC Coach of the Year (1994, 1995)
3× SEC Coach of the Year (1998, 2003, 2005)
Big 12 Coach of the Year (2016)
John R. Wooden Legends of Coaching Award (2016)
Sporting News National Coach of the Year (2016)
NABC District 8 Coach of the Year (2016)

What coach are you talking exactly? Im completely confused now.
Orlando Smith

Oh he is a basketball coach. I thought we were talking strictly football coaches.
Yes. I apologize for dragging that out, but I thought that the references to Naismith, Iba, Wooden, NABC might have lit a bulb.

I dont really follow basket ball so until today i had never even heard of the guy.
