In fairness, a weather threat played as much into it as anything. There was another game Saturday that ended early. One of the HBC schools was involved and getting mauled. Can't remember who it was, but they pulled an ODU.

Yeah, he gets a break on this one. Really not much different than years ago Tech and LSU suited up, warmed up, went back into the locker room and never came back out due to lightning in the area and never rescheduled the game.

That's a little different than shortening the game once it has started and you are losing. If you hope to win the game, you want every minute of clock. This was effectively waving the white flag and crying for mercy. The score was 42-3. If that game was close, I bet it wouldn't have been shortened.

I was of the understanding that shortening the game talk was initiated by some outside authority.

Fair enough.
You may want to check out their boards if you have some spare time. It made me feel MUCH better about our loss. Some are already calling for him to be fired haha. Didn't take them too long. To be fair it's only a few... so far.
Plus they get to face Houston this week... have fun with that.

I say, 60 - 7 Houston. With that said, they were so bad last year, that once they start conference play, I'm thinking they'll have a few respectable games. He is certainly not going to save them, but probably not the worst choice they had either. I have to put my personal feelings aside when I think about how he'll do at his new gig and I do believe he'll manage 8 wins over two seasons (then he'll be gone), but those wins will be more than they had their past couple of seasons.

Exactly what I initially thought, then recalled the messages I was sending to some of my UNC friends "We all know there's no D in Carolina".
Yea, that was fun for about a quarter, then, ummmm, yea. I stopped texting... 07-coffee3

Withers was exactly what we needed at exactly the right time. He was an energetic shot in the arm and he happened to have a pre-existing relationship that landed him Vad Lee.

Beyond that, he is a below average coach with above average bells and whistle, wingdings and catch phrases. Unfortunately for him, none of those prevent the other team from hanging 700 yards of offense on you and scoring 60 points.

It'll be interesting to see where he coaches at next, because you know he and his folks at CAA are already working on an exit strategy.

Will he pull a Petrino and jump ship mid-season, wouldn't put it past him. He should open a pawn shop and focus on payday loans.

I just spit some bourbon out of my nose laughing so hard at the pawn shop and payday loans statement! Brilliant!!

When was that? I remember back in 2000 when VT & Ga Tech warmed up, went back into the locker rooms & never came back out due to lightning in the area. The game was canceled and not rescheduled. That was the season opener the season after VT lost to FSU in the NC game and Michael Vick was on the cover of SI. Lee Corso's car got struck by lightning.

It very well could have, and probably was, GA Tech. Not sure why I was thinking LSU. Everything else you stated is exactly what I stated. Nevertheless, it was an influence made from an independent source and that is what was stated about the TX State game. I believe it was in Durham when we agreed to shorten half time due to weather on the front end of our game which delayed the start.

LSU and VT played in a deluge that was the end of a hurricane in Blacksburg a number of years ago. That's probably why VT/LSU is tickling your memory.

Thanks, you are probably right, and when you are pushing 60 the brain starts to fade a bit.
