ND plays NC State at home next year. Can the schools swap home games and move this one to Notre Dame Stadium as an option?

After playing Clemson in a hurricane you would think the Irish would be used to this by now.

No idea how the ACC/ND would handle it. I know when we had to flip SCs game to Baton Rouge last year during the floods here, the SEC decided the next meeting would stay in Baton Rouge as well and no future games would be changed. But who knows

Cancelled altogether is probably a bad idea as it is in conference and could impact bowl chances, etc. Obviously human life is more important and postponing the game is probably the way to go, but can you imagine the uproar if GA finishes with 5 wins and a cancellation against SC? Or if They finish at like 7-4 and are passed over for a better bowl by a 8-4 team?
Or:
TN loses to Alabama, A&M and Mizzou.
Florida loses to LSU.
GA beats Florida head to head.
But the standings say:
Florida 6-2
GA 5-2
Florida goes to the SEC east championship?
Basically, this game has to be played at some point in some way (another location, later in the season, 12 minute quarters).

I'd kind of guess Sunday or Monday. Just looking- South Carolina is off next week, and Georgia plays Vandy. If it's on Monday- that'd be the exact same as a team playing on Saturday and then the following Thursday.

Also Virginia Tech @ UNC at 3:30 as well as Army @ Duke. The Tech-UNC game has serious Coastal Division title implications.
LSU @ Florida with a noon kickoff as well... I'm guessing if it has too much of an impact then the game could be moved to Baton Rouge, like the SC game was last year.
You do understand that Gainesville is on the GULF side of the Florida peninsula, right?
My parents live down in the Ft. Myers area (also on the Gulf side) and said they are calling for 40 mph max winds in their area. Now that's not pleasant, but Gainesville should be fine if the current track holds up.

Gainesville is only 70 miles from the Atlantic. As of the 11 am NHC public advisory, hurricane-force winds extend 45 miles from the center, and tropical storm winds extend 175 miles.
And here are the wind probabilities, also per the 11 a.m. suite of NHC advisories:
FROM FROM FROM FROM FROM FROM FROM
TIME 12Z WED 00Z THU 12Z THU 00Z FRI 12Z FRI 12Z SAT 12Z SUN
PERIODS TO TO TO TO TO TO TO
00Z THU 12Z THU 00Z FRI 12Z FRI 12Z SAT 12Z SUN 12Z MON
GAINESVILLE FL 34 X X( X) 6( 6) 25(31) 23(54) 4(58) X(58)
GAINESVILLE FL 50 X X( X) X( X) 5( 5) 9(14) 1(15) X(15)
GAINESVILLE FL 64 X X( X) X( X) X( X) 3( 3) X( 3) X( 3)
If Matthew strays west from the current NHC projections, and it's been trending west for the past couple of days, then the chances of 50-knot (strong tropical storm) and 64-knot (hurricane) winds increase, possibly dramatically.
They may well be fine, but I'm sure they have a backup plan if the forecast goes pear-shaped and they find themselves dealing with hurricane conditions.

I'm betting that he's making the all too common mistake of mistaking the forecast cone as representing the limits of the effects rather than the prediction of where the center of the storm will track.

One option would be playing it Oct 22. Georgia has a bye and SC hosts UMass. SC could then try and reschedule that game for the weekend of he SECCG

And that the cone is based on historical error spread and is not specific to the probability of conditions in the current environment. I kind of wish they'd get rid of the cone or change it to reflect meteorologist/model forecasts, because as it stands now it can be very misleading.

What's wild is that many of the models project Matthew to loop back and cross Florida, into the gulf, and then head north - so NEXT weekend's games could be affect as well, but in a different area.

No, it looks like it's almost dead center and right in the edge of the storm, but thank you.

https://www.wunderground.com/blog/JeffMa...t-in-longr
Look at the bottom of the page
Quote:While a loop back towards Florida and The Bahamas next week is not yet a sure thing, the increasing trend of our top models in that direction is a strong indication that Matthew will be around for a very long time. Long-range forecasts of wind shear are not very reliable, but this morning’s wind shear forecast from the 00Z run of the European model does show a low to moderate shear environment over the Bahamas and waters surrounding South Florida late next week, potentially supportive of a hurricane--if Matthew survives the high wind shear of 50+ knots expected to affect the storm early next week. The bottom line is that it currently appears that Matthew will not recurve out to sea early next week, and The Bahamas and Florida may have to deal with the storm again next week.
Still a lot of ifs, but potential tracks could hit Lafayette or Pensacola/Mobile

There was a storm a few years ago that did that, but I don't think it hit land first. Pretty sure it was a near miss then turned east then looped back.

Ivan came up through the gulf, out to the Gulf stream, down to Florida, back into the Gulf, then hitting Louisiana

Despite the governor saying its ridiculous and the state police saying they'll all be at the coast and will not work the game, South Carolina is still claiming the game will be in Columbia. If they delay to Sunday or Monday, things could be worse than Saturday with flooding in the state.
