North Dakota St ranked #27 in AP Poll
Just missing the AP top 25 this week is an FCS school, North Dakota St: 27th in votes received. Has an FCS/D-1A team every been ranked?
Cheers!

Offhand, I want to say they were close but no cigar, like top 30 maybe.

The AP's policy is to staff any games involving a top-25 team with an AP reporter who produces a brief, a shorter story and a writethrough that's longer, more analytical/moving forward and that has quotes. Wonder if that would be the case if NDSU moves into the top 25?

27/25 doesn't really count.

Holy Cross got a few votes back in the mid 80s when Gordy Lockbaum was a Heisman finalist.

Pretty sure Nevada had some votes in the early 90s before moving up (either the 1990 or 1991 season).

Actually here is a great site: http://collegepollarchive.com/football/i...-FkePkrJph

Interesting that NDSU got zero votes in the coaches poll. Translation: they're media darlings, but coaches don't respect them.

FBS coaches poll does not allow for FCS teams to be selected.

Yeah...Nevada got off to a good start when they moved up with the Big West. If I remember correctly: The Big West winner played the MAC winner in the Las Vegas Bowl until almost the year 2000. Then it became a bowl for the PAC vs the conference UNLV resided in (WAC, MWC).
Different subject, but I have a great memory of a game around that time when UNLV played Arkansas in the Las Vegas Bowl and really whopped them. Watched it on tv and was really surprised and impressed.
Cheers!

RE: North Dakota St ranked #27 in AP Poll
Prior to 2007, FCS(or I-AA) teams were not eligible for the AP Poll. After App St knocked off Michigan, pollsters asked to allow FCS teams to receive votes. The AP agreed and changed the rules. The following week, App St received some votes, but nowhere near enough to crack the top-25.

Since then, FCS teams have occasionally received votes. There is one pollster who normally puts the FCS champ as #25 on his final ballot of the year. NDSU has received numerous votes at different times in the past. The number of points received after the Iowa win is by far the largest point total received by a FCS team in AP history.

And has been said, the Coaches' Poll never changed their rules to allow FCS teams to receive votes.

AP did have a number of D2, D3 and now defunct teams that reached top 25 when there were no divide. Arkansas-Monticello was one of them.

Okay then, for the last 40 years, FCS/I-AA weren't eligible.

I'm not saying the following is the complete list of all recent FCS AP votes, but I think it's pretty close.

Interesting no votes in 2015. Didn't play a FBS team that year.

Only FBS upsets catch the voters attention!
