BTW, still think ACC football is enjoying "unprecedented" success?
Of course. The ACC having unprecedented success means exactly that...the conference. I never said that all ACC teams are having unprecedented success. Claiming what current ACC teams did as independents in 1991 is no different than the Big 12 claiming Nebraska or Texas A&M's nice starts this year.
However, I think what you are getting at with that is that you can't undersell the POTENTIAL of the CURRENT conference based on the history of the conference BEFORE half the members were in it.
I absolutely buy that...as much as you can't claim the success of ACC teams before they were in the ACC, you can't pin the historical futility of the ACC on teams that weren't a part of that. And in that sense your chart is very instructive.
The ACC does not have to be what it has always been, and shouldn't act like that is destiny.
My point is always that the ACC as a whole and as individual institutions has to be vigilant about football, because it has a history of almost complete mediocrity, and it's not just a matter of "cycles" and it's not a matter of just adding successful programs, as 2003-2011, with Miami, FSU, VT, BC, etc the ACC put up a whole lot of "worst conference" football.
We aren't in just an "up cycle", we are in an unprecedented level of success because of the direct efforts of many schools to do better. We didn't just roll into the next cycle...that devalues the investments so many programs have made, and to be fair, the moves the ACC leadership has made to raise the revenue of this conference dramatically over the last several years.
Anyway, I know we pretty much agree on this issue.

Wake is 4-0 and the rest of the conference doesn't suck at the same time. That is historic!

There is a secret recipe for getting good. Schedule a game with Army and boom, your season will be good. Both Duke and Wake have found the formula.
