I assume everyone complaining about attendance
I assume everyone complaining about attendance has purchased at least 4 extra tickets for Saturday at 7 pm's BG game.
that should be 400 tickets and fans right there
A 7 pm kickoff will be a lot of fun

Memphis is a 30-40K program playing in a 59K stadium.
Attendance is pretty much fine, so are tickets sold, etc.

40K easily then. Norvell has a chance to be the first coach to start 3-0 since 1912
Who would miss that ?

The ole miss fans will be there. UT is playing Florida at 2:30. That'll cost us about 2500

All things being equal...night games typically draw better than day games. I'll be surprised if the crowd isn't bigger this weekend.
I won't be able to make it, but I'm trying to make sure that my 7 tickets get used. So far they aren't what you would call a hot commodity.

If Ole Miss had our schedule & money, they would be a 15K program - and that could be said for most of the SEC. If Memphis scheduled competitive P5 programs OOC, Memphis could lead the country in the G5 attendance, which BTW is better than approx 20% of the P5 programs. Memphis had the 3rd best G5 attendance in the country last year (that includes BYU). Quit complaining about attendance & attend the games - and if you're going to complain, do so to the AD to schedule better OOC in both FB & BB.

stadium is too big to force people to buy season tickets.
If people don't buy tickets ahead of time, its easy to flake out and not go.
This will always be an issue at the Liberty Bowl.

Memphis averaged 43K last year. In comparison, Vandy averaged 32K. Not bad. That being said, I have a feeling our attendance will be closer to 35K this year. The Houston game will play a BIG part in the final number.

I think both Hoops and ATL are right. If Memphis fields a competitive team, then attendance really hasn't been an issue. 35K or so is pretty good comparatively speaking.
If you want to see 60K in the stands, then I'd suggest driving to Tuscaloosa or Knoxville on Saturdays in the fall. Otherwise, let it go and enjoy Tiger football. Don't sweat the things you cannot control.

RE: I assume everyone complaining about attendance
I expect the BGU attendance to be 45,000 to 50,000. Why?
>Tigers are 2-0 and favored to go to 3-0. People support a winner. i welcome everyone to the bandwagon.
>Our team is exciting to watch. Lots of big plays on both sides of the ball to grab people's interest.
>Night games always draw better at Memphis.
>Tickets are still dirt cheap. You can get a ticket for $15. I am regularly paying $8 for high school games.
>Weather looks to be very favorable for this coming Saturday. The rain did scare off some "fair-weather-fans" last week.
>This fanbase is slowly building up. I came on board as a fan in the 1990's. It took a while for me to work up to season tix. I hope for slow and sustainable growth of our fanbase. I remember going to Miss State and Auld Mess when they only had 15,000 or 20,000 fans in attendance, and that was not so long ago.

RE: I assume everyone complaining about attendance
One of the days soon (& it may have already occurred with the B12 miss), the coaches of the FB & BB programs will get marching orders from the University President & AD to have a stronger OOC schedule to put more butts in the seats - for financial reasons. Ticket sales are going to have to carry FB & BB for those programs to sustain & grow their current budgets - and that level of financial commitment will have to grow to sustain success.

I hear you, but there is a fine line. Attendance won't be good if you schedule good OOC teams and get your brains bashed in. Rip scheduled home games with Miami, Minnesota, etc. and it didn't help much because the Tigers stunk in those days (despite having great defenses).
I think it's most important to win, and then a secondary ingredient would certainly be a good schedule. I felt like Fuente was steering us in that direction. We had UCLA, Missouri and others coming up in the future and he had built a winning program. Attendance would only have improved under his watch. With Norvell, we will see. Too early to tell.
