PF Josh Boutte commits to UNCW
Hawks received a verbal from a Dodge City JUCO PF who is listed between 6'6" and 6'7" and 210 lbs. Hawks should have 2 more grants available for next year with 4 seniors and being 1 under right now for this class and already having had 2 other verbal commits.

He is listed at 6-6,205 and that is pretty damn small to play inside. He must be a great athlete. Hope there is not shrinkage in shipping with this guy. I checked 3 sites and not one of them had him at 6-7 but was at 6-5 on one. Dennis Rodman was listed at 6-6 on some NBA sites but was more like 6-9,so it can be done.

That alone probably makes him a role player.

A few things stand out.

1. Rebounds like a "junkyard dog", love it.

2. Found some highlight video and almost all of his FG's were dunks with a few layups. LOVES to anticipate passes, get the steal, and then get on the run and take it to the hoop off the steal. Which means he has the handle to go coast to coast. IMO, that's why Keatts went after him.

Keatts has obviously made the decision to sacrifice size (if he must) in favor of getting guys who can get up and down the court. As the players he inherited have rotated off of the team, he has put together a roster that is going to have to run, trap, and press -a lot - to beat bigger teams.

Its going to be see!

Let's hope that's not a "Buzz Peterson" 6'7"....that would mean that they measured him wearing four pairs of thick athletic socks inside platform sneakers.

I obviously still can't get over, nor understand what he hoped to achieve, when Peterson's squad of players all "grew" by a inch and a half from one year to another.

Hope it works, must admit I am not impressed with signing, certainly was hoping for more production than appears here. Guys that can 'jump out of the gym' to often means they can do little else. Will gladly eat crow should this work out.

In Keatts We Trust.

I think he has really figured out the style of play that works at this level, and has figured the type of player that can work in his style of play.

Keatts seems to be all in at this point on pressing and scoring on the break and wearing down opponents. He has a combination of outside shooters, take it to the basket guys, and full court press guys who can finish on the break. This recruit seems to fit the bill.

That's the thing, "at this level", but is it good enough to get to the next level? You play high level comp without abig man you get burned. (See Plumlee)

RE: PF Josh Boutte commits to UNCW
I watched a Hudl video and what I saw of course were clips of him dunking. Mostly weak side off the ball dunks but he can really get off the floor quick. Did not see him play any defense but these video are mostly just crap set to campy music. Just looking at his size I see no way that he is a interior defender. Most tournament games turn into half court scrums at the college level unless one team insists on pressing no matter what. They usually lose those games.
