Week 3 Thoughts:
-Overall another rough week for the Big 12, but I would like to remind everyone of the Big Ten during the early part of the year in 2014. It was being widely written out of the playoff bowl picture in week 2 when the major powers of the conference lost (including Ohio State loosing at home to an average Virginia Tech team). The non-conference schedule ended up pretty bad throughout too. However, Ohio State still improved to the point it beat out TCU and Baylor for the Sugar Bowl playoff spot and the conference did well in bowl season. I’m not saying this year’s Big 12 will be a repeat, but the history does not say their playoff hopes are gone either (even if Baylor and West Virginia lose).
-Conference USA lost its last undefeated. That probably comes pretty close to eliminating their New Years 6 bowl hopes. A big upset could help though. The Sun Belt isn’t far behind with out Georgia Southern left.
-Army is now not only our only undefeated independent, but there aren’t any 1 loss independents either. I just focus on this because it feels very surreal.
-Virginia lost a close one and that leaves them as our last winless team from one of the power 5 conferences.
Week 4 Thoughts:
-Our games between undefeated teams are Clemson at Georgia Tech (Thursday; actually already over and Clemson won, but that’s for next weeks list), Wisconsin at Michigan State, Florida at Tennessee, Wake Forest at Indiana (yes, this is between undefeated teams), Georgia Southern at Western Michigan, and Arkansas vs. Texas A&M (neutral site),
-Florida State plays at undefeated South Florida. Should South Florida pull off the upset, this would set up the American conference very well in the New Years 6 bowl picture.
