A few comments of the UNC game
Well just got home around 1230...passed the Team bus' going up rockfish gap road as we raced them back to the valley.....
Biggest observation was what I heard a # of times during the game from the sea of carolina blue that surrounded our few purple shirts as we were sitting in sec 102 and again by not the young UNC student type fans but the older alumn's as we were walking back to the car.
"you guys got a really good offense"
The group of carolina people in the rows above and below us Showed alot of respect for our team and up until 7 min till halftime were pretty worried and knew it was a ballgame.
We met some Alums from UNC who gave us a nice tour of the old campus before the game, talked about how good their offense was, but had concerns of their defense....I wish I could have spoke with that group after the game.

I thought the team did great! offense clicking. couple mistakes (shorr not throwing the ball out of bounds and taking a big loss , was a big one)
but all that can be corrected.
Did anyone notice up until about 10 min left in the game there were no turnovers by either team, (we almost had some picks) Penalties, hurt us some but the ACC refs seemed to really give benefit to the home team for sure on some of those PI calls...but at least they called conduct penalties cause they played quite dirty.

any if anyone has any doubts about why mitch is not the started...did you watch him play today? cause its very evident schorr is a better QB.

was a great turnout of JMU folks and there were 3 good sections of purple in 100/101 and in 201 with the band which you could hear very WELL.

As we begin CAA play if the D make corrections and learns from today, and the offense keeps humming we will be fine. Its going to be an exciting season. Hang on folks and keep rootin..
Oh btw.....Spatters got splatted today by STONY BROOK....

I had very much the same game experience with the UNC fans. They were worried most of the first half and were surprised at how good of a football team we have. #GoDukes

RE: A few comments of the UNC game
From a game standpoint, our most glaring weakness was a total lack of a pass rush. Turbinsky had all day and a perfectly clean pocket to throw from. Our DB's can only be expected to cover for so long- especially against that kind of talent.

My biggest take away, however, was about the UNC fans and Chapel Hill: Wow! We were treated like invited guests from the start of the weekend until the end. We literally did not have one bad word spoken to us. The UNC people were so polite and welcoming. On several occasions when we asked people for directions they wouldn't just tell us- they showed us- a la Ritz Carlton. No BS before, during or after the game. In my opinion, they set the standard that we should try to live up to when opposing fans visit Harrisonburg.

RE: A few comments of the UNC game
I was a game day decision on going to the game and had to had to watch it on TV because I have some things to prep for a work trip tomorrow and didn't want to be all hung over. But yeah, I've been to the last two games at UNC and have had the same experience. Their fans have been very classy. I'm not sure if they are just that nice or don't take us seriously so don't really care. I did notice attendance didn't look that great. Lots of empty sections in the upper level.

I agree on Mitch. I know it sucks to get in the game in those situations but he almost looks lackluster to me. So, I won't judge him too much until he actually gets to play when the game is still real but yeah, it kind of seems like he's going through the motions. He's one play away so I would have liked to see him stick a TD in there in the 4th quarter. It would have been meaningless as far as the outcome but I would like him to come out of the game with something positive to build on.

RE: A few comments of the UNC game
Agree with everyone that their fans were great. There was only one guy that is basically the worst generalization of a UNC fan you could imagine (and a group of idiots at the tailgating lot, but I'm not even sure they went to the game or were even UNC fans). He was a completely pretentious dbag and was talking THE WHOLE game like we were nothing and throwing out random stats and calling all the UNC players by nicknames like he was best friends with all of them. We could tell by the reactions of everyone else around us that he was 'that guy' in their section (this was section 127, so it wasn't like these were low-level donors). Everyone else around us was AWESOME. We had a super nice family that sat in front of us that we had nice conversations with about both schools. There was a really nice couple that sat behind us and shook our hands after the game was over and thanked us for being great fans, which we said the same about them. One guy talked to me for a few minutes out by the concessions just before halftime and gave us a ton of respect. We stopped at Chick-fil-a on the way out of town and an older couple was asking us about JMU (they had googled Madison and it came up with the one in Wisconsin which confused them) and they were very complimentary of our team. Previously I had only sat in the visitor section at UNC, but we came away VERY impressed with their fans.

RE: A few comments of the UNC game
jmufan2008, I had one guy like that the last time we were down there and it could have possibly been the same guy and I snapped. I don't want to do that, but I had enough. He was a couple rows up and I tried to go over the stands and fight him and my friends tackled me thankfully. I cannot stand people who act like that. He was screaming about our team on every single play. Usually I ignore that stuff but he hit my breaking point. After that, he shut the F up. I didn't want to be 'that guy' either but there were 5 of us with our JMU gear on and we were being completely respectful and just cheering for our team and this guy was completely out of control. I kept telling myself to let it go but eventually it was just too much and I lost my ****.

Coach Houston commented post game the team came out of it in good shape.
Didn't see Kirch come back into the game at RT after he left, but that was probably precautionary.

I have just one final comment about the game.

JMU played an entire 60 minutes and didn't give up 80. Oh, and it's great to root for a team that isn't ODU 03-lmfao

I wish we could have had a minute or two added to our game from the shortened ODU game at UNC.

Something to chew on...
Abdullah had 15 carries for 102 yards in the first half.
He finished with 18 carries for 116 yards. As I was sitting in the middle of UNC fans their conversations were interesting. The repeated theme was JMU could run at will and they were thankful whenever the Dukes passed because there was a better chance to stop it.

Kirkpatrick can't get cute when the run is so effective. Despite the defensive disaster, there were more points for the taking against a soft UNC run defense.
