Honestly, had we gone up 17-14 at that point, it's very possible they would have scored and played better defense down the stretch. Not saying that would have happened, but Gnonkonde scoring would not have sealed a win for Troy, per say. Lots of football left to play after that point in the game. Santa Claus already came once when their punt return was ruled a fumble. That was a huge bounce in our favor and was the primary reason I wasn't upset about the non call on Gnonkonde's fumble recovery.

I feel the same thing with people calling "moral victory" with Troy's win over Clemson. It's okay to say Clemson is overrated and probably won't win 8 games, but don't stupidly act like there's much of a difference between beating a bad Kentucky team and narrowly losing to a Clemson team that probably won't get back to the CFP but is a top-25 team.
Weighing the first three weeks across the board, Troy is the best team.
1) Troy
2) App St.
3) Georgia Southern
4) ULM
5) ULL
6) Georgia St.
7) NMSU
8) USA
9) Texas St.
10) Idaho
Troy definitely deserves first. The rest are a crap shoot at this point. ULM probably doesn't deserve 4th, but I am a homer and do think we are WAY better than we have been given credit for, deservedly so albeit after last year. Viator is a good coach and we are young. I think we only get better as the season goes along and will have a similar season like Georgia St. did last year and possibly finish 6-6. Hopefully we make a Troy type move next year.
I know we suck right now, but we didn't even make the list!

Totally agree. I can't see a scenario where Troy would have beaten Clemson. Nevertheless, still great performance by a good Troy team which will peak next year. Clemson is a bit overrated, probably not even a top 10 team, a good Top 25 team nonetheless.

While it does my heart good to see so many speaking positively of Troy right now after years of sucking...I almost don't want you guys too. LOL. I'd rather play role of underdog that spoils than always having the target on our backs. Regardless, there's a LOT of football to be played and having been a Troy fan for a very long time, I know just how fast we call fall from grace.

Definitely maybe.

The team seems to be adapting to Fritz about as well as we had any right to expect, but it's still a transition. Saturday's game is an absolute toss-up IMHO.
Congrats on the Mississippi State deal at the Superdome, BTW. That's a great get for the Cajuns, and there could easily be 50k on hand to watch if the teams are having good seasons.

RE: Week 3 Power Poll
Here's my take
1a). Troy Big win against southern miss. The games a G. southern and App will most likely decide the conference.
1b). Georgia Southern prolly should have lost that game against ULM but regardless team pulled it out. The D has been great but the O has has had many miscues. Gotta get some stuff cleaned up but 2-0 in conference has to count for something.
3). App after being very great the first two games this one was a head scratcher. Seems the team was over thinking things. Granted I believe Miami is very talented I just don't feel App put forth much effort like they did against Clemson. They still are prolly the best team in the conference but I think we all expected a better showing against Miami.
4). ULL still don't know what to make of this team but they won so that counts for something.
5). ULM. They should have knocked off the Eagles. But didn't.
6.) USA bias because of knocking off miss st but they seem to be in a rut after a big win.
7.) Astate better showing in the second half. But man for a team as talented as they are they have not looked the part.
8.a) NMSU honestly gave Kentucky more of a fight than most figured they would.
8. b) GSU I could argue semantics but nmsu has shown a little more than the panthers. Played Wisconsin better than I figured but when taken as a whole getting destroyed by Air Force last week still weighs in heavily. Gotta have a decent showing against app after the bye week. ( not that we will win but it can't be a blow out I think app has like a 80-3 advantage scoring against the panthers the last two years
10) Texas St. Up and down. I believe they are better in the long run but can't give props for a blow out.
11) Idaho I don't know what to make of you guys. But Washington state trounced you guys. Offense I figured would be the least of your worries but it's still early and you guys prolly will get some stuff figured out.

RE: Week 3 Power Poll
1. GS - Undefeated
2. ULL - Have won 2 straight and a good win over USA. I don't think they're the 2nd best team in the league in the long run, but as of late they've been better than most.
3. Troy - Great win over USM. Started around 7th on my list so moving up quick.
4. App - Bad loss to Miami
5. TXST - Ohio win still resonates some only cause every single team on the list from here down lost last week.
6. stAte - winless but still middle of my list simply cause they started near the top.
7. NMSU - See TXST. UNM win still resonates some thanks to poor week 3 overall in the league.
8. USA - Only one win, but it was an SEC opponent. 0-2 start in league play is tough to bounce back from though.
9. Idaho - Won your FCS game at least.
10. GSU - Has looked really bad all year until this weekend. Still lost though. Still winless.
11. ULM - started the year at the bottom of my list. Still there until they can beat a decent team.

That's actually a significant number of attempts/game for an Air Raid team.

We're at 42 rushes per game and 36 passes per game, 78 total. That's relatively balanced. We ran 32 rushes and 35 passes, 67 total last year. Neal Brown did say he wants way more plays per game this year and so far he's delivering. That will be tough to slow down in my opinion.
Our 5.68 rush yards per play is a different stat, and we lead the conference there behind our 231 pound back.

But because Only three belt teams won and it wasn't a big head to head weekend for belt teams. My top three for the week would be 1. Troy, 2. GaSo 3. Cajuns after that anybody guess.
The fact you can't separate App from Idaho, or anyone else below what you listed shows you haven't been paying attention, much like you haven't been around until Louisiana won a couple of games.
1. Troy
2. Southern
3. App
4. Georgia State
5. Arkansas State

Seems to be an improvement over last season from what I remember. If it weren't for holding on that Cox TD he would've been at 110 yards in the first quarter against Miami, instead he got hurt.
Will be interesting to see where Troy's offense ends up, but as it showed last season in flashes, it has all the potential in the world.

APP is still a monster in the SBC. Miami has clobbered everyone they've played and will contend in the ACC. Not enough credit is given to Miami right now. Troy should be an underdog when APP comes to town. Don't discount APP because of one game.

The issue with the Miami game is the defensive play calling went right to Miami's strength in match-ups. Essentially, App was trying to bait Kaaya in to throwing deep to keep him in the pocket longer but the safeties held their bluff for too long. App would've been better off giving Miami the short throws and forcing the ball to the middle of the field.
In P5 games, if your defense isn't playing well, explosive plays on offense are needed. Any time App had any momentum on offense it was killed by a penalty or a dropped pass and then of course the defense broke down and blew coverage's all day long.
I don't anticipate that game being an indicator for the rest of the season because no one really knows how good Miami is. If anything, a win against Akron will put App at 2-2 and right where people thought they would be headed in to the season.
Also, I am proud of the fact that I was on the Troy bandwagon during the preseason due to what I saw from Brown during the game week against App and how that translated on to the field. He's a young guy, also finding out how to win as the head man and I think he has done that. Too bad for Troy, he may only be there one or two more seasons.
