Regarding Iowa, Ferentz is one of the most overrated coaches in college football. Iowa AD must be sick at giving him an extension until the end of time.

On another note, we will easily be able to at least contact Lincolon Riley after this season. Doubt Stoops makes it past this season in Norman after two non-conference curb stompings thus far.

RE: Other games- September 17
I'm watching Texas vs Cal at 11:45. Question: is there a rule in College football that the clock isn't stopped after an incompletion in the last minute? I ask because Texas threw two incompletions in a row and the clock kept running. Prior to that Texas made a first down and they never stopped the clock, but the refs caught that and reset the clock. Btw this game is a track meet, 35 - 33 Cal at the half. Texas can't cover the Cal receivers and the QB isn't getting pressured, so he's picking them apart. Cal can't stop Texas running attack but the horns threw some bad passes and left points on the field. If this scoring rate keeps up it's one for the ages.

The UT Cal game has morphed into the boredom bowl in the third quarter. No score with 45 seconds remaining. Still 35 - 33 Cal.

Exclamation RE: Other games- September 17
All I've heard about the last several years is what a lousy coach Mark Richt has been. He's terrible, he's nauseatingly predictable, he's a bad recruiter, he can't win the big games, etc.... Yet he looks comfortably good in his first season back in Miami so far. Made an App State team that took Tenn to overtime look like, well, like a Rice football team.

Too bad we can't have as crappy a coach as Richt here at Rice. I'd love Richt's level of mediocre versus ours. At least we'd be in the conference champ game frequently (read: more than once) and be ranked most years.

Finally the Horns score on a 47 yard run right up the middle. Cal, which had 245 yards passing in the first half is now reluctant to pass and has 40 total yards in the second half. Go figure. Maybe now that they trail 40 - 35 they will remember they can also pass again. 4th quarter with 13:38 to go.

Texas ties the game at 43 after an untimely penalty. 5:49 to go.

Bears take all of two minutes to score. Now 50 - 43 with 3:41 to go. It's 1:23 AM here in Houston. I don't know why Cal ever runs. Their receivers are always wide open. 396 yards passing for the bears on 27 of 40.

RE: Other games- September 17
Texas goes nowhere and punts with two minutes left. Cal has third and one and the Cal runner goes untouched up the middle for 50 yards into the end zone. The dumb*** Cal runner drops the ball a yard before crossing the goal line in order to demonstrate to any and all just how cool he is but the ball is awarded to Cal at the one since nobody from Texas thought to recover the ball. So Cal wins 50 - 43. Texas shot themselves in the foot multiple times and richly deserved this loss. It's now 1:39 AM. Nightly night, all.

A Texas player did pick up the dropped ball in the end zone. But that apparently occured after the TD whistle had blown.

Officials said that there was "no immediate recovery" of the dropped ball, so Cal got the ball back. They ran out the clock, because UT had no timeouts left.

Silly rule. The Texas guy picked up the ball. Even if the whistle had blown, I think Texas should have received the ball at the 20. Look for that rule change to take place by next season (an Oklahoma returned did the same thing in their game on a touchdown return).
