If you have clubhouse lawyers undermining the coaching staff then the AD and coaching staff need to have a talk with the clubhouse lawyers ASAP. You remind them who the head coach is. If they do not like the message, you remind them that they can just walk away or not have their scholarship renewed.
I may be wrong but I believe there are very few schools that would pick them up.
Eh see where you're coming from but this one is hard. Just like any first line supervisor; you will be able to follow the rules but if there isn't that respect you're just not gong to perform as well as if you're emotionally sold. And as we know football is a fair percentage of heart.
There's no way, imo, this event occurred with that much significance and it didn't get leaked. That would be the greatest "in house work" I've ever seen especially by a group of kids. With that said something happened. And judging from the performance there's not a ton of love there. Hell, if you judged from the sideline view (yes, yes I know doesn't inherently mean anything) you could argue Carey doesn't like his players either.
We loved Kill because he coached us each differently. He recognized each player developed their own way. Me for instance, didn't need to get yelled at. Matter of fact it did anything but make me better. He knew the way to coach me was instill confidence. Some need a boot, others are the opposite and Carey just seems to be down on his players a ton. Sure, plenty of coaches operate that way but for it to work there better be a ton of respect/faith in that coach.
If the poor performance is indeed due to lack of faith/motivation for the HC (which I'm not saying it is for sure), we're taking about needing a culture chance. Won't happen unless a massive change is made.

That is a huge sign of a player's and good coach. I suggest some watch the series on Showtime about Florida State. It truly shows how Jimbo Fisher pushes each player differently to bring the best. Some comfort, some chewing them out, etc. Doing it only one way as a coach will get some if not most players to start blocking out what they have to say in any sport.

Coaching is no different then managing a staff of employees. I have to be hard on some and others require more encouragement.

I try to be hard on some of my employees and all I get is a slap in the face.

RE: “The Rumor”
I am still very upset that I did not have information on the player's mutiny before the bowl game last year. I could of made a fortune with that news. Please let us know before the game next time! Big time betters would kill for information like this. I wonder if anybody did win big with this inside knowledge?
