D1Baseball's Fall Ball Ranking Have Rice in the 16 - 20 Grouping
Pretty fair and balance writeup by Kendall, though he obviously has yet to learn about our two incoming JUCO transfers, and we're one of the few programs who have yet to start Fall Ball...

Rice University logo2016 record: 38-24

Key departures: C Hunter Kopycinski, 3B Connor Teykl, 2B Grayson Lewis, LHP Blake Fox, RHP Jon Duplantier

Breakout candidate: UT Tristan Gray

Fall skinny: Though the Owls weren’t consistent at times last season, they still finished the season with a bang, playing at a very high level in the Baton Rouge Regional and reaching the title game against LSU. While the Owls have a strong foundation to build from this fall, they do have some holes to fill, particularly on the mound with the departures of weekend starters Blake Fox and Jon Duplantier. Fox was a leader and mainstay in the rotation the past few seasons, while Duplantier’s had electric stuff. Both will be greatly missed. With that, the Owls have a bevy of options from which to choose from. For instance, RHP’s Willy Amador and Ricardo Salinas both have good potential. Salinas showed a fastball up to 92-93 last season, along with a good changeup, while Amador has a good breaking ball and has had success against elite teams. The Owls also have the option to move power-armed Glenn Otto to the weekend rotation, while Evan Kravetz will have an elevated role and Dane Myers should be closely watched. Myers has a power arm and earned some innings last season. However, he was a little raw and has a year of seasoning under his belt. While the pitching staff has question marks, I really like the way the Owls setup offensively. Tristan Gray is athletic and has tools and I’m expecting a big fall and spring out of him, while Dominic DiCaprio, Ryan Chandler and Charlie Warren give the Owls experience and production. Rice also returns SS Ford Proctor, who reminds me a lot of former Owls SS Brian Friday and who surely will have a productive fall and 2017.

Those numbers are solely based on the finish in the ranking last year. They aren't a fall baseball ranking.

Are you sure, as I thought our final D1Baseball ranking was #24 or #25?

National championship not withstanding, I don't think Coastal Carolina will be the preseason #1 in any poll.
