For the love of Gen. Neyland what does it take for the Vols to get a game with Auburn again?

Expanding by 4 and moving to divisions of 6.

Under the current set up, South Carolina is going 18 years (!) between home games against LSU

That is one thing I love about the 10 team round robin set up that we have in the Big 12.

The ability to go division less would have helped solve a lot of these type of scheduling issues but it was voted down.

And it's just ridiculous. At minimum, we need to add a 9th conference game to alleviate some of these problems.
With that said, I truly believe that the setup we have currently was meant to be a stop-gap. I think the intention was to expand by 4 in 2011 and devise a more permanent and reasonable rotation with 9 games. Things fell through and we ended up with the odd alignment.
This is one of the reasons I'll be glad when expansion is finally decided and over. Our current structure is not meant to work over the long haul.

4 in 2011-2 was in the plans and actively being sold. 6 in '91-92 was the first dream. It was pursued but then we settled for 2 and split divisions with a championship game. What we are in is definitely a make shift arrangement. At 16 you rotate half divisions, play 9 conference games, keep 1 permanent rival and play everyone every three years. You just forgo playing everyone home and away over two years. Instead you play everyone home and away every six years.

I'm all for more conference games and no permanent opponents. Those would be two easy fixes

I know we like to talk about staying at 14, but the only way I think that works long term is to go divisionless. Expand to 15 or18, but the mean interval between out of division opponents is way too long right now. I can deal with the single add of an ECU or OKST if it resolves this problem.

Many of the schools in your conference don't like all the programs that populate theB12 slate. The SEC as the opposite issue.
