I spoke of Davon Durant and said he would be better than McKelvey. If you want to see what I was talking about, skip ahead to about the 23:30 mark of this video.

I really like Durant, but he is only going to have 2 years to do what McKelvey did in four. And well McKelvey had to look over his shoulder each time on the field and know that his brother Omar Brown had done what he was trying to do before him in Huntington.

I think Durant will be a real good one for us though. I do think he will terrorize this conference the time he has here.

Durant has top 3 round talent and measurables. He benched 505 this summer and did 36 reps at 225. He has great instincts and a very high motor. Right now I would say he's the best LBer prospect Marshall has ever had. By mid season he will be a dominant force.

I don't know if he is the best we've ever had. He may very well be once he leaves Huntington. But we've had some pretty good LBs over the years. He might be the highest rated. Ive known about Durants strength since he has gotten here and all through the game Brett Romburg couldn't stop talking about it.

I seriously hope after the 2017 season is over I can look and say you were spot on with Durant. But everyone in the nation has had players like this and they come in do good things the first few games or year and then flame out or do something stupid to be dismissed (See Jean-Louis).

He was impressive, but realize that was Morgan State. Its as bad as playing a NAIA school. Akron will be a much better measuring stick for where we are and how good some newcomers are.

Durant looks like a beast, for sure. I would truly be afraid of the herds defense next season with Yulee and company joining the rest.

It was Morgan State, but he does the same thing against our offense in practice.

Banker as I said in 2 years I hope I can say that you were spot on with Durant. He looks to be a special talent. But lets let it play out first, we all know how some of these special players turn out.

I hope you are right about him being a top 3 round talent. I love seeing Marshall players drafted or signed as UDFAs, I just like watching those who come through Marshall do well. I hate to keep bringing him up but its the best example in a while that we've had. Everyone on all Marshall boards thought Angelo Jean Louis would be a 1st or 2nd round pick. And he could have been had he kept his head down and nose clean. After being dismissed at Marshall and playing just a handful of downs at Shepard last year he is now no longer on their roster. Doubt we ever see him again.

Herdzone Article on him today.

http://www.herdzone.com/sports/m-footbl/...16aab.html

Jean Louis is a bad example, he didn't want to work and thought his talent was enough to have it handed to him. When you read the above article you will see that Durant has a different set of beliefs. When you couple freakish athleticism with a strong work ethic and desire you can't miss. The only thing that will stop Durant from a long pro career is injury.

A better example then might be Lang. Lang was a three year starter. He done everything right for three years and in one misguided night he lost it all to have a great senior season in Huntington. And truth is it could probably happen to anyone if they don't keep their head in the game.

I looked on the Shepard roster when I knew their fall camp was under way and their roster would be updated. And no AJL on the roster. He was only targeted like 17 times last year and only caught 9 passes. He will probably never be heard from again.

Lang had a lot more issues than one bad night. Hope he lands on his feet.
