I saw this story on ESPN and was curious to hear everyone's thoughts. He's going to use this as an opportunity to try and get Big12 officials at every game they play at home against non P-5 teams. Oh by the way, the replay officials that also missed the call were Big 12 officials.

I can think of more examples when the P5 schools got the benefit of the hanky from the officiating than the other way around (especially in a tight game).

When UC played at Ohio State a couple years ago we had basically two scores taken away that were highly suspect. The home cooking also cost us a couple scores when we went to Illinois in 2013.

Watch the ucf vs Michigan game. Yeah Iet's add more home cooking and just pencil in a victory for them.

All the conference officials are biased to varying degrees, but they are all biased.

I know I've seen the AAC refs make very favorable calls for UCF in OOC games.

If I had to rate the P5 officials in level of fairness I'd say:
Most fair -> most biased
PAC, Big12, ACC, SEC, B1G

The few times I can remember having MAC refs, they seemed incompetent, but not very biased.

The NCAA really just needs a pool, paid for by each team or conference.

Tulsa got some bad calls at Ohio State too when the game was close.

The same thing happens to ECU as well, especially against SEC teams. There's always a phantom holding call or pass interference or something stupid like that. My favorite was a few years ago against UNC with ACC officials, they gave UNC an extra down (they got 5 downs) to try and score from like the 2 yard line (they decided not to count one of the plays due to a play clock issue and let them run an extra play).

Yeah if you want to get rid of the whole thing about officials being "conference" officials and just have guys that work general regions or something that's fine, but I doubt that's the point he was making.

That one score right before the game broke open that got overturned was dumbfounding. The call on the field was TD, idk how this gets overturned. Even the Illinois fans were scratching their heads.

Do P5 officials make 10-20X or more as much as G5 - just as the football programs do?

If so they should always be 100% correct.

That just makes too much sense for it to work.

If I know Gundy he will insist on Big12 officials mostly.

Why do conferences have officials anyway. The ncaa doesnt make enough money to have officials? Those mac officials never reffed a big12 game.

Does he think b12 officials will be more fair "wink" "wink".

I thought the officails penalized cmu more than osu and made a bogus call that allowed osu score their last touchdown

They actually don't. The NCAA gets a lot of money from basketball, but almost nothing from football. Unfortunately the P5 make the rules, and you'll pry their payrolled officials out of their cold dead hands.

Every thing I have seen in varies from conference to conference. According to this article, the B12 would not release how much they paid officials but the article did state B10 officials make $3,000 a game while the AAC officials made $2,250-2,500 a game.

There are other variables involved as well. Some conferences require the referees to cover their own expenses and others make them take it out of pocket.

Ii would venture to guess it is not a reach to say it is more lucrative to officiate a P5 game over a G5 game.
