Post week 2... Rank em
CMU - best win and beat down of FCS
WMU - second best win and beat down of FCS
Toledo - our opponents are 0-2 outside of playing us so we have to be third, but at least we're beating teams like we should!
Ohio - suprised me and Beat Kansas so for now the Texas State game has been relieved
Ball State - There really isnt another team I can put here. A valliant effort against IU and an FBS win over Georgia State is currently the 5th best resume.
Akron - didnt have a chance in the Wisc game so we'll put em here and hope they can win a few.
REST- no FBS wins, and 3 FCS losses

Ball State was down 20-0 at the half to IU.
Again its IU not the most competitive P5 program.

True, but they played well for stretches. A couple untimely first half turnovers were the difference in that game. The defense not good enough to win mac but ball st will upset teams that overlook them.

I think CMU/WMU/UT are equal.
Miami/UB/EMU/KENT are bad.
OU/NIU/BG are probably the same class, average.
BSU/AKron are not great but will have a few surprise wins.

^^^^ I disagree with your assessment.
Levels:
1. CMU/WMU/UT -- I do agree, in the same boat.
2. Ohio/NIU/BSU
3. Akron/BGSU/UB
4. Miami/Kent/EMU

Ball State scored the last 20 points of the game, including 17-0 in the 4th quarter on the road against a team that came in bristling over having lost 3 in a row to their "little brothers." Cards had a first quarter fumble inside the 5 yard line, the second of three costly turnovers. Game should have been closer. Very young team with great spirit, determination, and work ethic. This team will only get better. Coaching is excellent.

RE: Post week 2... Rank em
Tier 1: Toledo, CMU, WMU. Rank them in any order you want 1-3. I don't see how anyone could make the case for anyone else belonging in this tier two weeks in.
Tier 2: Ohio. Great P5 win for the Bobcats in Lawrence! The Week 1 G5 loss keeps them a tier below for now, though.
Tier 3: Ball State. Solid G5 win in Week 1, and a relatively competitive outing vs. a P5 in Week 2.
Tier 4: NIU. Two losses (one close, one big) to G5 competition. NIU is the enigma at this point. Past reputation keeps them a bit higher than probably deserved to this point.
Tier 5: Akron, EMU. One big FCS win and one big P5 loss. Hard to tell based on just those two results where both teams will fit down the road.
Tier 6: BG. A narrow win over North Dakota would be great in hockey; in football, not so much. A failed two-point conversion is all that keeps the defending MAC champs from the bottom tier.
Tier 7: Buffalo, KSU, Miami. FCS losses automatically relegate these three to the cellar for the time being.

Quote:3. Toledo(2-0) blowout win vs weak G5, blowout win vs FCS.
MAYBE weak G5, but not assumed at this point -- Arkansas State was set to win the Sun Belt. Not even challenging Auburn at any point, and getting piled drived where it hurts without lube by Toledo does make them being a weak G5 a possibility. In the G5, there's less consistency, so we shall see. Until conference season, we do not know.
Quote:Tier 6: BG. A narrow win over North Dakota would be great in hockey; in football, not so much. A failed two-point conversion is all that keeps the defending MAC champs from the bottom tier.
I watched that game. ND was ranked, and are probably a great D1AA, but still. After getting bent over with sandpaper as the form of viscosity by Ohio State, you would think at a home opener they'd take their aggression out on them. Agonizing to watch, after the MAC lost to FCS teams too much.

Can't argue with this. Though the top 3 are in a tier up. Then OU/Akron/BSU in a tier. Then maybe NIU/BG (based on history). Then the rest.

RE: Post week 2... Rank em
Tough to tell what's with NW and Ark St. Both expected to be pretty good but haven't looked it. I think UT really hurt the spirit of Ark St. Just dominated them at home when they had talk of a special season. They may recover over time and be a factor in the sun belt race.
Western gets a name opponent in Illinois. Tough to tell if Illini are much good this year. WMU then has a good opponent in Ga Southern coming up. They are 2-0 and just rolled that S Alabama team which was coming off the upset win at Miss St.
Ohio's win over Kansas is tough to judge. Kansas is P5 and has some players who were highly rated recruits, but they have been really bad the past few years. We'll know about Ohio after they play Tennessee on Saturday.
CMU plays an improving UNLV program at home in what should be a good game. UNLV lost by a point to UCLA last week, putting up 41 (giving 42). They follow that up with Virginia, sort of a glorified Kansas type P5 program with loads of talent but not much recent success.
Toledo plays an average Fresno St team this week and then gets a bye before a big road test at BYU.
Lots of MAC teams playing G5 heavyweights, so to speak, this week. NIU hosts San Diego St who is coming off a huge win over Cal. Miami hosts CUSA contender W Kentucky who competed with Alabama for a while last week. Akron, who to me still looks like a team with some talent but no real clue, gets a chance to surprise Marshall on the road. BG gets MTSU at home, another team expected to contend in CUSA but reeling a bit after a loss to rival Vandy. I think EMU's game w Charlotte is a big one. They seem to be on the verge of improvement but need a confidence builder. Charlotte is not a good team, but it's still FBS on the road.

Couple of big personnel items for EMU:
1). Potential star RB, Shaq Vann, is out hurt. He carried the ball ONCE vs. Mizzou. (that really hurt our offense - we don't have offensive weapons to spare). Don't know how long he'll be out. Shaq could be the next fine EMU RB behind runners like Bronson Hill, Darius Jackson, etc.
2). QB Brogan Roback returns from a 2-game suspension. EMU has two QBs who can play in the MAC. Todd Porter is the other.

Last year it was the EMU defense that was blown away by injuries. This year it appears that the offense may be hurt by personnel issues. They've already lost a starting OL to a career ending injury, two WR have not played yet, and now Vann. Add in two suspensions and it's a problem.

I think he means that they're starter-type material.
But here's my rankings:
After Week 1:
Western Michigan
Toledo
Ball St
Central Michigan
Akron
Eastern Michigan
Kent St
Miami
Bowling Green St
Ohio
Northern Illinois
Buffalo
After Week 2:
Central Michigan
Western Michigan
Toledo
Ohio
Ball St
Eastern Michigan
Bowling Green St
Akron
Northern Illinois
Kent St
Miami
Buffalo
Notes:
*Yah, CMU's win probably shouldn't have counted, just like Michigan St's loss to Nebraska last year. But Oklahoma St blew it on quite a few plays, not just the refs.
*WMU's win vs Northwestern doesn't look as hot with their loss to FCS Illinois St but they still look pretty hot
*I could see one of WMU/CMU/UT running the table.
*Way to go to Ohio for redeeming itself vs Big 12 Kansas. Kansas may not be great, but their still one of the MAC's best wins so far this year.
*BGSU and NIU just doesn't look the same this year.
* This might be the worst I've seen the MAC East. When will Miami start turning things around?
