Congrats to East Carolina and Cincy
for big wins.

And to USF for smoking a historically very good MAC program.

And to Tulane for getting that offense revved up.

Good week, y'all.

The next 2 weeks get tougher for ECU...at SC..at VT. Hoping to come out with at least one victory out of these games.

I hope for two, I'm realistic for 1, I'll be pissed at 0.

South Carolina got smoked by Miss St after barely beating Vandy.

Sure, they'll be tougher to beat at their place.

But Will Muschamp shouldn't scare anybody.

*******

Anyway, great start for the new ECU coach to beat NC St first rattle out of the box.

Must agree, this SC team looks average and so does VT. Might have a shot at a P5 sweep this year....

It's SC's home opener so I'm sure it will be a great atmosphere. We'll see how our boys hold up.

RE: Congrats to East Carolina and Cincy
At this point I would favor the Pirates in Columbia over the Gamecocks by about a touchdown... but this is a game that we can easily lose. Mississippi State has a good team and regardless of their poor finish against South Alabama, losing to them is not something to be ashamed of.

Plus, this will be USC's home opener. They will be fired up and ready to beat us.

Virginia Tech beat themselves last night. They will likely do so again against us if they turn the ball over three times and have another 8 penalties for 101 yards like they did against Tenneesee.

I will be thrilled to get out of the next two games with a 1-1 record. I think that we'll win in Columbia and lose in Blacksburg. Both will be close games.

RE: Congrats to East Carolina and Cincy
Living in South Carolina, I can definitely say this is one of their weakest teams in a long time. I would be very disappointed if we were not in a position to win this game in the 4th quarter. I think if ECU can take a lead it will burst the bubble of the 85k sell out crowd that is hoping and preying the Gamecocks can figure out a way to win a game.

I think VT is definitely the better of the next two opponents and with us beating them two times in a row they will definitely be fired up to beat ECU in Blacksburg. To have a shot at a really good season we need to at least split the next two games. If we go into AAC play at 3-1, I think we can make some noise in the AAC East race. Worst case I like our chances of going 5-3 or better in the AAC so going 3-1 means 8 or more wins this season which I would take with a new coaching staff. Having watched ECU for 30+ years I have seen enough of this coaching staff in two games to know they are an improvement over the last staff. They are far more disciplined, organized and cerebral than the previous staff.

South Carolina is not playing very well. We will be playing in Columbia, though. As our first away game, it will be a challenge.

I agree with your sentiment towards the coaching staff. Thank goodness. The athletic director made the correct call.

North Carolina State would wipe the floor with South Carolina now that doesn't mean we will beat South Carolina. We need to come out with the same focus and energy and effort we did this week. It's going to be tough to have that kind of emotion on the road but we can definitely match the effort and execution we played with this week. If we do that and the Southeastern conference officials don't screw us we will beat South Carolina .

I think it's about matchups and if McIlwain starts I think he poses a more dangerous threat then Finley since he is mobile. The WCU QB gave us fits with his mobility and McIlwain is similar. Also this is the first road test for our staff. Through the first 2 games I think they have passed with flying colors so I'm interested to see how they handle a hostile situation. I hope the coaching staff and players are going to be ready for some "phantom" holding calls that I'm sure we are going to get with SEC refs.

Btw, Pesik, do you remember in the summer where you "knew" that Houston would start out as a 13 to 15 point favorite over Cincy based on their Peach Bowl win. The odds are out and Houston is only a 6 point favorite. You will never admit but Ha Ha You were wrong.

State might be more talented than both USCe and VT this year. Of course being road games makes it a much different challenge. If we can win 1 that would be tremendous.

Would you give six or 15. My point is that Pesik was so sure that Houston would be such a heavy favorite, and this was prior to their win over Oklahoma. At any rate, I would give the six points also if UC was not my team. I bet that it will be 8 points.

How come NCSU gets ACC refs on our field but SC gets SEC refs on theirs?

Are we sure SEC refs will call the game? Or is that lopsided like the rest of the scheduling contract we have with USC?
