North central near the Virginia line and just off the foothills to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nearest large city you probably are familiar with is Greensboro. I thought deer were bad in Ohio. Damn near domesticated herds down here.

I like growing odd things. This year I ordered peanuts off amazon those are going well. I've also been working on an avocado tree. Ive never seen something grow so slowly. This year I'm also trying a pineapple plant. I doubt that'll have enough time grow anything substanstial but I think it's cool.

Curious how your avocado tree works out. My wife and I love fresh avocado in any form. Aside from dips, love slicing it up to put on a salad, sandwich, burger or on the side for breakfast during the summer.

I'm also a garden tomato fan but got tired of fighting off deer and squirrels. Didn't plant any this year for the first time. Tried everything save fencing off my property or keeping a dog outside. I hate squirrels. We have hoards of 'em in the neighborhood as I live in a wooded subdivision with oak and hickory trees. Might as well be a hotel vacancy sign blinking for the little bastards. They dig up our mulch, eat our bird seed and steal tomatoes. I even bought a trap several years ago. Probably caught near 60 over 3 years. Didn't kill 'em. Relocation program. I doubt I made much of a dent in their (over) population. Bastards.

It has been unbelievably slow but I like to experiment. It's probably been sprouted for about 9 months and it's currently less than a foot tall. And that was with a grow light through the winter. It also has not responded too well to being moved outside. But we'll see.

At the risk of this sounding gay ( in 2017 is it ok to even say that, I digress) I'm slowly converting my yard into hummingbird and butterfly gardens with mostly native wildflowers and flowering vines. Craft beer road and gardening street are a really busy intersection at Chateau Rath...the two hobbies were designed to be enjoyed together.

Talk to me about the flowering vines. Didn't think I'd ever read that on this board. Do they grow quickly and without much assistance? I have a park in my backyard so there's fence on one entire side of my yard mostly covered by weeds right now. I want some good looking stuff that can take it over a bit.

RE: Beer Beer Goggles
Major Wheeler Honeysuckle has red blooms all year on old an new growth. Will reach a spread of about 15 feet in length if you let it. I picked up a couple at Bloomin' Center in Kenwood and have mine on split rail fences and they are bird magnets. I planted them last August and they are approaching a 10 foot spread right now.

Mandarin honeysuckle does well, too with orange blooms. I got one of those at Lowes on clearance for $3 in August and it is kicking butt in year #3. Neither are invasive and only grow on their own vines from the main trunk. They will grow along a fence line really well if you spend a few seconds a week coaching it along once the hyper growth kicks in.

Your buddy must be something else, I would be too afraid to mess with a wolf to try to get some.

RE: Beer Beer Goggles
it's unfortunate that the brewery in my neighborhood is one of my least favorite local breweries. but apparently we're getting another. my buddy told me they wanted to call it rabbit hash brewery. as if. open the sh!t in rabbit hash genius. real innovators these people. but everyone can't be as great as naming things as me i suppose. while we're on the topic of ****** brewery names, the aforementioned urban artifact is also terrible. brink in college hill isn't bad. i'm digging how beer is hearkens to it's roots. to quench the thirst of the neighborhood. but just make regular beer. taft's second location in spring grove village is probably going to be open soon

I mostly drink Hudy Delight or Guinness. I'm about as basic as it gets with beer.

I drink a huge variety of beers... not one to knock the old watered down america lagers, but also one to appreciate a good IPA, Stout, Porter or Pale Ale. Keep your sweet beers away from me, keep your sours away from me. Other than that, beer comes in a ton of different and tasty varieties.

RE: Beer Beer Goggles
for the beer lovers -- you don't want to miss this release tomorrow:

https://streetsidebrewery.com/march-24-d...n-release/

Quote:I Drink Your Milkshake Can Release
MARCH 24: I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE! CAN RELEASE
Saturday, March 24, 12pm

Brewed with gobs of oats, lactose and an absurd amount of vanilla, I Drink Your Milkshake is like no treat you’ve ever sipped before. Distinctive aromatics of vanilla bean ice cream and blueberry sorbet swirl together to enchant the senses, while hints of Mosaic hops emerge for a rounding out of IPA flavors.

Don’t let anyone else Drink. Your. Milkshake. Drink it up!*

Limits, prices, and special tappings will be released closer to the event. Join the Facebook event for all the details.

*With the amount of fresh blueberry purée in this beer, we HIGHLY encourage drinking it FRESH and keeping it COLD to avoid it re-fermenting in the can.

I've probably drank less beer than ever the last month and half. It's all been a blur between work and taking care of a newborn. Really looking forward to taking an afternoon away for Oakley on Tap in a couple weeks. Seems like a pretty good little beer event.

I was a big fan of Hustle by Rhinegist last year when it was a Rye Pale Ale, so when I saw it at the Local Krogers I bought a couple of 6pks. When I got home I noticed they completely changed it to an IPA, which I hate. I emailed Rhinegist and gave them a suggestion that "if you're going to completely change a beer you might want to change the name too". The CEO emailed me back with some baseball analogy BS and I asked him how many f-ing IPA's do you need in your lineup? No response back...lol

My current favorite, when I can find it, is Brew Dog's Hazy Jane IPA. Followed up closely by Braxton's New England IPA.
