Iowa St. students against BYU in Big 12
Interesting.

"The Iowa State University student government has come out against BYU's Big 12 candidacy, according to The Ames Tribune.

The university's student senate passed a resolution Wednesday stating it, "believes that BYU's discriminatory policies and practices are inconsistent with the values of the Big 12 Conference," and it "does not support BYU's membership bid to the Big 12 conference at this time."

Do either of those schools have an absurdly discriminatory Honor Code? (They may, which is why I'm asking)

They're not against Christians or religion at all. They're against a very specific honor code...which is quite literally spelled out in the article.

Tcu does not discriminate. Period. Their Asst. AD is openly Gay (probably the highest ranking out LGBT person in any FBS Athletic Department).

Baylor's situation is much more complex. Baylor removed their Title IX exemption request but retains some policies that could be used to expel/fire out LGBT and non-religious students/staff. They aren't enforced. Problematic - yes. But not on the same planet with BYU.

At BYU, changing religions gets you expelled or fired. BYU does check up on its students/staff. At BYU you absolutely cannot be Gay and married and exist at the school. I don't even live in the Intermountain West and I know about a dozen former BYUers that can attest to BYU's enforcement of those rules.

Basically, BYU has a blanket ban on LGBT staff and students (99.9999999999999999% of human beings, regardless of sexuality, are not lifelong celibates).

Notre Dame openly advocates, as a matter of public and official policy, for the inclusion of LGBT athletes and staff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca9bUC7jqAs

Wake Forest does not discriminate. Period.

----

There are a few D1 Universities that discriminate. They include Liberty, BYU, Charleston Southern, Pepperdine, and a few others. Baylor should be on the list too. But Baylor is moving towards inclusion.

I'll give you an example about how bad BYU's policies are....if you are LDS and you decide to change religions, you can be expelled for it. If you are atheist or simply don't have a religion, you cannot attend or work there at all.

----

Mormons can and do participate at every single Big XII program in the country as athletes, students, and staff. This isn't discrimination against Mormons but about discriminatory policies targeting one segment of the population. The impact of that exclusion results in fewer (and lower paying) opportunities for LGBT players, students, coaches, and staff. Iowa State's student body was well within its rights to advocate for the inclusion of LGBT persons in all facets of Big XII athletics.

Correct. I have a friend that is a professor at TCU. When TCU recruited him, one of the initial concerns was how would TCU respect him and his husband? They just showed him their equality policies, and how they covered all spouses on insurance, etc. He's never had an issue.

Just because it is a religious school, doesn't mean they discriminate. Notre Dame covers same-sex spouses, has anti-discrimination policy, etc.

A few seconds of checking would show you are wrong. But you probably are immune to facts that don't fit your preconceived notions...

Oh have Baylor and TCU implemented an Honor Code for its students that ban:
1. Premarital Sex.
2. Alcohol use
3. Caffeine
4. You will be kicked off the team if it's discovered you drank a beer or had sexual relations with your girlfriend. (See Brandon Davies of the top 2011, top 5 BYU basketball team who was suspended for the season right before the NCAA tournament for admitting to a councilor that he had sex with gf)
?
Cheers!

I'm guessing pretty strongly that TCU has no such code: http://www.dfw.com/2012/09/26/687482/tcu...yboys.html

I wouldn't be so sure, they have their blemishes just like the rest of us. Even at 4, the Big 12 could easily go Cincy, UH, UCF, and UConn.

BYU will never get into the Big 12 when their own honor code blames victims of rape in violations of the code. That is bad news there alone.

It's only going to be 2 and what I've heard is that the TV partners have spoken. Take it fwiw, shoot the messenger, really don't care and the info didn't come from twitter.

You go to BYU knowing what the honor code is. Is it harsh and draconian absolutely. But no one forced you to go there and no one forced you to sign the paper saying you would abide by it
