This is probably a very good preventative measure to keep sanity around here if things go sideways tomorrow in West Lafayette. Hopefully it will not be necessary in retrospect.

Rath, G-Man was smarter than all of us put together! I still miss him. Great guy!

Me too. I always wanted to have a sharp comment to come back at him and match wits but it always ended up sounding like: "Yeah? Well...that's just like your opinion, man...":lmfao:

When you make 44,000 a week and **** the bed on a regular basis you deserve more than criticism. I agree with the players for the most part too but again people are entitled to their opinion. I just can't stand all this pc crap and group think.

Not sure how being civil equates with "PC crap and group think".

Never said it did.

RE: Time to Clean Up Our Act - Notice From the Mods
On the one hand, I understand the need for criticism when criticism is due, and I personally have no objections to it. I also understand that I am often persona non grata in here when I've spoken out about it being over the top. There may be others in here that have likewise been such, but I have been a staunch online advocate of anything Bearcats since the first PCs and thus the first online hoops sports boards existed (mid 90s)...when the first cbs sportsline sites were developed. Long before this site existed. Sports boards have come and gone since then, but I always stood up against all the UC haters I've come across.

I've followed UC (mainly hoops) since I went to UC in the seventies. I've always been a defender of UC (especially hoops) as that was our headline program. We took endless attacks back in the 90s due to Cincy's thug image. And I never backed down from defending it from those outside the family. I'll point to my smack down of Tulsa fans yesterday as an example. Some may appreciate that, others may not. But that's where I come from. I'm a bearcat, and as such, my nature has always been to stand up against those who want to attack our program and bearcat family.

I am not a supporter of anything that doesn't lead to the positive development of this program. Even as some may regard me as an apologist, that's never been my intent. If it requires coaching changes, then I support it. For me, it's always been about what's best for UC.

I prefer a peaceful coexistence with all bearcat fans on this site. We are part all of the same family. I personally prefer we criticize objectively and where appropriate.

I guarantee that if any of you sat down with me for a beer, we would have a great time reminiscing about all the highs "and lows" we've all experienced as fans thru the years.

I applaud the moderators who would like to keep the negativity somewhat controlled. It's the staunch fans that post in here, but we're not the only ones who read it. Cheers to the Bearcats and bearcat fans everwhere. Peace and harmony towards all.

Warning noted.

It's kind of funny. This board is pretty much a haven for me. The main, Conference board, is almost completely unreadable these days. I wish the mods there would step up, but apparently they will not over there. In contrast, I have experienced this forum as being pretty good at thoughtful conversation...even where people tend to disagree. So, I'm not really sure what/where the problem is except for apparently those of us who have a less-than-positive view of where things are headed.

But that's cool. Life is good. The future is bright and I'll cheer for my Bearcats come thick-or-thin.

Hey trust me, we mods share many of the concerns that have been voiced here. There is no expectation to always be positive. We are just trying to avoid complete meltdown and over the top stuff.

Hopefully we all will have a LOT to be positive about in the next couple of weeks!

As long as mods aren't using their power simply to squash unpopular opinions and only to maintain civil discussions, this is a good idea.

I don't want to speak ill of the deceased, but I felt Gruehls was more about squashing opinions. He was popular in large part because he culled a following of like-minded individuals. Rath is right, this board used to be MUCH more uncivil. It was pretty ugly.

While a particular point of view tends to predominate, opinions are much more diverse today, and this board is much better for it. Some people just need to better handle a variety of opinions that don't agree with their own.

As incredibly unlikely as it may be, if you jerks know something that you are not telling us I will lose all faith in this board, possibly humanity as a whole.

I just hope we have some reason for positivity or I fear negativity will be replaced by inactivity. See what I did there?

Rath is right about the old days. Used to be the Wild, Wild West!!Fuel To The Fire I miss the politics board. It was me, Bearcatmark, and AZBearcat against everybody else. I never got to finish debating Hawkeye on whether raw milk should be banned or not. I miss gruehls, even Chatter. And where did ol' crancran go?

Jerry, when I returned to the ranks of being a mod, I took one look at the conference board, and didn't know where to begin. To overhaul that one would be a 24-hr-a-day job.

I used to love that guy's stand up act until he had all kinds of plastic surgery done and made himself look creepy.

I have made many sacrifices for this board. Today I will drink 12 cups of coffee. Tomorrow I will drink 12 year old Scotch. Sunday 12 year old wine. And on Monday, September 12th, I will drink 12 shots of tequila at high noon and 12 shots of Everclear as the clock strikes midnight. See you all in hell, Chicago Bearcat
