Alabama hires Sarkasian
didn't see this posted anywhere....

One thing kind of interesting to me- something Joel Klatt said on FS1 yesterday. He suggested Alabama did that so that LSU couldn't fire Cam Cameron as Offensive Coordinator and have a guy like Sark available to take his place(suggesting that Sark pretty much only real viable option for an in-season hire). It sure sounds like a viable reason.

Also makes sense to promote him if (when) Kiffin gets a HC job after this season.

Any of those theories might be reading too much into this. Sark is still a recovering addict and most likely not yet up to being a coordinator or even a full-time assistant at this point.

So Kiffin does a favor for a friend by giving Sark a chance to stay plugged into CFB, and hopefully being at Bama and around people will be better for Sark than spending 90% of his time sitting at home or in a hotel by himself.

Reading to much into it.

Hiring him was just a no-brainier decision. Kiffin and he both are very similar when it comes to coaching style, recruiting talent, and the offense they run. When Kiffin leaves it will ensure that Alabama does not skip a beat.

This. Having an in-house replacement if/when Lane Kiffin finally takes his fourth head coaching job in 10 years is beneficial for Nick Saban and the Alabama football program. Helps with continuity and consistency for the team.

Regarding Sark, I'm still shocked that Haden didn't do a background check with UW before hiring him. I am actually surprised he will be allowed to coach again, considering he showed up bombed to practices, games and social functions. But - sports is a world of second (and third, fourth, etc.) chances. All it takes is one person, one school, one organization to give out another opportunity.

Are you sure they didn't do a background check on him? If academia is anything like the real world in this respect (and I suspect they are even worse), it's very likely that an HR person would not, under advice of counsel, suggest he had an alcohol problem. That's just asking for a lawsuit.

A simple investigation into his tenure at UW would have turned up his problems.

I think the funniest thing is the outrage among the UNC fans on the interwebs about how this is being treated different from the Beckman deal and how they can't see the difference between not only the two firings but the fact that Saban didn't out and out lie about Sark's duties like Fedora lied about Beckman's.

Saban won't be careless; he won't let there be photos or video of Sark on the practice field coaching players.

another bit of good news is that Rumlin Sumlin at A&M is feeling a lot less pressure about his future in coaching now

he always has a landing spot at Alabama with the party boys

I heard on the radio yesterday that Bama has like 30 coaches. Of course, they're called stuff like "analyst" and what not. I guess they needed another one.

Steve is one of the better coaches in the nation.

If he can get his drinking in control he will be great.

Kiffin has worked out well so far and heck until this year USC was paying most of his salary. After what happened at USC Sarkesian knows if he isn't on his best behavior at Alabama his career is over.

Really hard to second-guess anything Saban does at this point.
