Keys to NIU winning against USF
1. USF will stack the box again. Need to beat them with play action/slants. With Nine in the box, got to take what they give you.

2. Put more pressure on the QB. Defense has to step up. Run defense good but if no pressure/containment, QB will exploit the secondary

3. Special teams have to be adequate. can not afford lapses

USF will see that Wyoming had success running to the right so expect them to do the same until we stop it.

Scharping and Howard did not have a very good game on the right side of our O-line, they need to do better.

Hare needs to be more accurate.

Need fewer missed assignments in the defensive backfield.

If they are going to stack the box, then Huskie O has to stretch the box and throw more passes. We have receivers. You do not have to run as often as you throw.

We've got a huge oline. We need to get back to running the ball like we've always done. If we do that, everything will open up and I expect us to have a big game and give Kenny G a lot of 1 on 1 opps vs their 5'8" corner.

We need to reinstall the hurry up offense pretty soon. I know Drew is just back and the other players are trying to get their timing down. We probably need a couple more weeks to get it going full time. I would like to see it at least by the start of MAC play... but I am not the coach!! JMHO. Opinions?

Part of reason to not use hurry up in last game was altitude. Guys were sucking wind

If we can hit passes early and often this will make USF rethink their approach. I expect Oline to play better

I remember when Kill took over the Huskies, they were swapping out players on every play. Winners adapt and overcome. Losers make excuses.

Have to be able to run the ball. Need to get Turner involved much more, too good a player to only touch ball on kickoffs. The TE Shane Wimman can play. And I would not have Laurey return Punts. The altitude probably played a bigger role than I thought it would, especially when you go to 3 OTs. In spite of it we were a play from winning. its tough on the road

I think the combination of Hill and the elevation turned out to be a very bad one. That guy was as big of a handful pound for pound as I can remember NIU facing.

If they are going to stack the box, then Huskie O has to stretch the box and throw more passes. We have receivers. You do not have to run as often as you throw.

Totally agree on strategy with D stacking the box.

I mentioned in another thread in the aftermath of the WY debacle:

Wouldn't it make sense to use the "bubble screen" we used to beat to death? And use Ducee for that....I think we would line up 3 WRs together...kind of a "diamond".

Hell....even fake the throw and draw play to Huff...? I don't know but you've got to spread the field. If Coaches didn't learn that from WY....well....I give up.

I wonder if NIU has gone away from the bubble screen because of Hare, he is just not accurate enough, maybe not quite a strong enough arm, and he takes just a millisecond too long to get rid of the ball.

I agree. If they don't find a way to get the other playmakers involved Kenny G will be a marked man. Too much talent for us to be keying in on one receiver. Drew Hare needs to see the whole field. Good Quarterbacks find the open receivers

Maybe they went away from the bubble screen because we used it so much the last couple years that the opposing teams were anticipating it and defending it well. We need to do more short and mid-range passes up the middle and mix them up with a bubble screen here and there. Just don't rely on it and the jet sweep.
