Can we find a Kicker?
While I was watching the FSU vs. Ole Miss game last night it made me realize how bad we need consistency in the Kicking game. FSU's kicker scored 18 point on his own last night and made Xtra points look like an NBA layup line, too easy. Can we get a stud soccer player and convert him to a kicker or something? If you're on scholarship and miss Xtra points you should be cut.

I know 7 hates him, but regardless, I still don't understand how they aren't using Chris Nendick. He's been training elite kickers all over the Midwest for years now and could be a huge asset to our staff. Never understood why they don't leverage him. It's a shame, the kids he coaches are landing schollies in P5 programs year after year

RE: Can we find a Kicker?
Why use our own alumni? That isn't the NIU way lol. Keep bringing in slap dicks...oh he was first team all mac guess what I was 1st team all universe from my mom. Can the kick make a 50 yard FG? Can he make an extra point? If we didnt win a bunch of conference games would Christian still be all mac?

If we lose games because of the kicking game its on Carey. 15.5 Dogs for a reason we cant make FG's!

So...half the kickers in FBS football should have been cut last year?

Do we have tryouts for kickers?
I would think a soccer player could at least give our kickers a run for their money.

Hagan was All-MAC last year. Finding good college football kickers is not easy.

I think you overestimate what is takes to be a kicker. And there are walk-on opportunities from everyone from kicker to QB.

Laugh all you want but kicker isn't an off the shelf position that some schlub from Grant South can waltz into because he played soccer at Naperville, nor does a NCAA Division One NIU soccer player want to drop their soccer dreams to get creamed by some acehole back-up special teamer.

I think that Hagan is a good kicker. There is a lot that goes into the kicking game and he does have a new holder. I wonder if there is anyone on the staff that can coach him or if he is in a position where he effectively has to coach himself.

All I'm saying is he got out kicked by Wyoming's True Freshman kicker. Flat out embarrassing. We shouldn't be holding our breaths every time he's up to kick within 30 yards. Especially when all he has to do is kick straight up the middle. He has one Job......

Whoa, Florida State has a better kicker than us? what the heck is our program doing...

Hagan had a bad game, contributed to the loss. I'm sure he knows it and it blows. He was decent/good last year, let's maybe give him another couple of games.

Hagan was all mac for one reason we won a lot of games and he didnt have to kick much. How many clutch kicks has he kicked? how many extra points?

might be the worst kicker to be all mac and quite frankly it means jack crap.

Nendick and Salerno never missed extra points ever!

It was rare for them but they missed a few.

Matt Sims was all MAC and he made only 1 important kick.
I thought he was mediocre.

RE: Can we find a Kicker?
Hagan had three field goals against Toledo including a career long 52 yarder to end the 1st half. Hagan missed two xp's last year. Kickers are a weird bunch. How many big games did FSU lose a few years back because everything was wide right. Whats the NIU record for longest FG?

RE: Can we find a Kicker?
ND under Holtz refused to give a K a scholarship. They weren't the only ones. Way back, coaches despised them once they started to become specialists rather than another starting/backup position player.

I don't understand missing close kicks, xp.

RE: Can we find a Kicker?
This thread is why this board is un-freakin-bearable during the season.

Did anyone watch the Toledo game last year when our starting QB went down and this dude came up with huge kicks to win us the game?

He was 1st team all conference last year for crying out loud.

Good players never have bad games?

Let's give the dude a reprieve, and criticize if it continues...PAST 1 freakin game!

for crying out loud..some of you need to get a freakin hobby.

Kicking is the least of the team's problems.

Didn't NIU lose a game to Temple in 2007 because Nendick missed an XP?
