This is PATHETIC for season/home openers.
Seven years ago Marshall wasn't drawing much better. Went into a drought once you moved to C-USA and only climbed out once ECU, Houston and UCF left. As you climbed so has your attendance.
Wrong. Alot of our fans boycotted snyder and chose to not go until he was fired. Had much more to do with Snyder than it did anything else. He was an awful coach. We have no problems putting 25k in the stands even against terrible teams and in bad weather. Morgan State is a terrible opponent, and right now we are looking at rain. Still, we draw 25k in the rain, 28k to 30k in good weather.
You Are so full of crap ...the record book might say 22k but not the butts...
VS ODU last year.... unless the home side was PACKED and I mean elbow to elbow no way Marshall had 20k at this game
here's 2/3 of the stadium
The only picture I can find of the home side is at halftime and I realize a lot of fans heads for cover. But if it was elbow to elbow there is not enough room for all of them in the concourse
Marshall only averaged 23,800 last year in the finial 5 home games...Purdue 38500 pushes it to 26,322
So as I said you are full of crap
Here's a part of a article I found from this year ...
The box office.
Marshall simply needs more fans for games in 38,016-seat Joan C. Edwards Stadium than the average crowd of 26,322 that attended home games in 2015.
And, bear in mind, the announced average attendance of 26,322 actually was inflated because it was based on "tickets distributed" rather than actual people in seats. For example, if someone buys a season ticket but doesn't attend a game, that fan still is counted as being in attendance. Or if a corporation buys 10 season tickets and lays them on a counter for anyone to take and some go unclaimed, they still are counted as being in attendance.
So, the "official" attendance is usually a few thousand fans higher than the actual number of people in seats.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
So what you are saying is Marshall's 24,000 ..(probably off by 2k on actual butts) is some how night and day better than 19,300 on a Thursday night?
No one is disputing Marshall has better than average fan support for CUSA...but if you think 3 to 4 k is a game changer...you are full of crap.
Marshall was 11-0 let me repeat that 11-0 and only had around 23k for your 12th game ...a game that puts Marshall into contention for a New years day bowl.
I will take 19k and a championship every year. Hell I will take 16k and a championship......
just win! That's what each of us needs to worry about.
It was black friday at noon in cold weather you turd. Ylu would have had 10k at a game like that. Perfect weather and can't even get 20k in a conference home opener.
We have had some terrible luck with weather. It has rained at home about 60% of the time in the last 4 years. And on top o that, we have been plagued by noon games. This year we have night games, and of course, the rain will still be a problem, but we will have good attendance.
Another thing, is we actually take fans on the road, not 50 or 100, but thousands. Take a look at any drivable game for our fans, and you will see a few thousamd herd fans there. I have never seen an opponent bring anything close to the joan.
Speaking of which, will be my first trip to southern miss this season. Looking forward to visiting the rock.

It doesn't need to. They could host alabama and may not get 20k. But don't forget, the thousamds en mass that nobody counts for them!
Marshalls attendance is now tracked electronically by tickets that are scanned. Every ticket gets scanned upon entry, and thats been that way for 2 years now i believe. It may be off by 1%, but thats about it.

Goofy...you said weather will not affect Marshall's attendance
Let me bring the quote down here for you so you can see what you said. So now there are excuses for Marshall? Believe me, I've seen the erector set of Marshall's (in person) and other than the number of seats there is NOTHING impressive about it...so I will just stop there.
Marshall's stadium is 40% empty...game after game. So why are you so giddy over of 25k?

We don't have an erector set stadium. It is brick and mortar.
Now I am starting to wonder if you have even been to Huntington or not.

That's the upper endzone expansion.
So it is roughly 6,000 of the 38,000 seats.
That does not make our stadium an erector set stadium.

Look I really don't want to get into this bashing crap...I let myself be drawn in by Goofy. The corners are a really bad addition to your stadium. To me as a visiting fan it stuck out. The other (home) side is really nice and while the building in the other endzone is not "my style" it's OK. But this part should have waited till the money was there to do it right.

I tend to agree - winning, in the grand scheme of things, means more than attendance. Especially in such transient areas like South Florida. How is FIU or FAU, who are not winning much right now, going to excite a bunch of transplant New Yorkers or Chicagoans to come see FAU vs. UTEP or FIU vs. MTSU?

Myself and most Marshall fans agree 100%. But it still doesn't make our stadium an erector set stadium. It makes us have a cheap end zone addition.
Our former AD was a bum in every sense of the word. As a fan base we hope to get that expansion removed and then expand the stadium correctly.
We are hoping to have end zone boxes in its place, and then add an upper deck to the visiting side.

This is PATHETIC for season/home openers.
20k is pathetic for a home opener against crap teams like Alabama A&M and Rice (sorry, Owl fans)? FIU and FAU, yes, but I mean really we at MT didn't hit 19k last year except for Vandy game (announced 25k but a hurricane was going on so maybe 1/2 that in the stands). Give it a break, at least until we get some real games in.
When's the last time MTSU won CUSA?

Except for the lapse last year, UTEP should win the attendance crown. But. Who's bragging?
Our average for the year will be 36k.

This is a great number for North Texas, considering last season was the worst in our 103 year football history. To be totally fair, SMU brought a large crowd too (2-3K).
I know some on here like to dismiss markets as not being important, but they are. UNT averaged around 13,000 last season because the fan base rebelled against the athletic director and his leadership. When Seth Littrell turns this thing around and we start winning games, 24,718 will be considered a small crowd for North Texas.
Because we showed improvement over last season, I believe we will still have a respectable crowd this week, even though we are playing Cookman. My guess is around 21,000.
