A Cautionary Tale
First off, I would like to congratulate USA and TxSt on their impressive wins, and that I was impressed with App St with how hard they played and wished they could have pulled off the win. I was disappointed and and embarrassed with how we played Friday evening, but I expect to see things change. College football is a funny thing. In the past, we have beaten Texas A&M, lost to Iowa by 3, and Texas by 8 (and should have had a chance to tie it up if not for a botched penalty call when we recovered the onside.) After these impressive OOC games, we still went on to struggle in conference play and finished 6-6, 5-7, and 4-8. We may end up sub-standard this year, but I wouldn't write us off after one game. In 2010 l, VT started off the season with losses to Boise and James Madison, then won 11 games in a row and am ACC championship. We won't care who you beat, and at this point, I still think we can win every conference game. Good luck to everyone this coming weekend.

RE: A Cautionary Tale
I have full faith that Ark State will pull it together just in time for conference play, leaving a black eye on the SBC if they win the conference. Why a black eye? Because without any notable wins during OOC play the SBC won't have a ranked team or a shot at the Access Bowl.

But we will see how it shakes out, you are right it is just one game.

The worrisome fact for Arkansas State is that you all have not played a good game without Knighten in games encompassing 1 and 1/12 of a season.

So is APP a black eye champ too then this year if they run the league?

Not if we beat Miami (or even play them close) and beat ODU/Akron handily.

So what, we should just lay down and intentionally lose our conference games so that a more "deserving" team can be conference champs?

You're funny. That's way off base considering we've only played 4 games without Fredi. Two were losses to good Toledo teams and the other two were wins in which we put up 70 & 49 points.

Ok. Wanted to make sure I see the line. If we play Auburn close and beat Utah State and UCA, we are ok.

That would be better, but I think the Toledo blowout loss would be the difference there. If we get blown out by Miami that would be much more similar.

Against FCS teams no less. You still haven't played well. You didn't play well when he went down against Mizzou, the following week against Toledo or this year against Toledo. Had 25 yards passing in the first half and not many more rushing yards. You have to understand that losing Knighten is far more important for you all then you realize.

You have to realize we know far more about our team than you do.

While you guys battle this out, I'm watching the 2nd half of the USM at UK game. Why? Because it's funny and SEC that's why.
