As I expected, I was impressed by their play Friday night.
I expected big things from POC and he delivered.
I thought Harris played much better than those doing PxP and color gave him credit.
I saw some good things out of Maxx Crosby. Potential star in the future? A redshirt frosh?
Figueroa started fast last season but seems to have faded. Didn't play that much Friday night?
MacLean and Brown? Assessment of their play Friday night?
The 2 deep all played, and played well, based on their 1st half domination. We'll find out a lot more this week against much better competition.
POC, Harris and Crosby are in a constant rotation every 3 or 4 plays, so keep them all healthy and we're in really good shape there.
Brown put on some good weight so he can now hold his own at the point of attack. The undisputed starter and ready to have a good Senior year.
Dawson and Granger are obviously huge guys that should get better as the season progresses as they round into better shape. Hearing they are both making progress getting rid of the bad weight, which is a great sign. Dawson listed as a Senior on the roster, so I guess he's done after this year. Granger listed as a Junior, so it'll be nice to have him back to anchor the interior of the DLine next year.
MacLean the perfect 3 technique with his quickness, and added weight.
Figueroa a tough one to figure out. May have played last year more out of necessity, than a really good freshman talent. On the small side, so his future may be determined by the weight room, and just how bad he really wants to compete. On the flip side you have Dunlap, who got much bigger and may have been one of the most improved players in camp. Still undersized a bit (at 6'), but showing that he really wants to play.
Hendricks a big strong guy fighting for reps, good rotational guy inside. Holford has been moved from LB to DE, so a learning curve is in store. Up to 251 lbs so the speed just isn't there at LB, but may now be perfect at DE, yet to be determined.
May have spotted the freshman Smith inside in the 2nd half. Looked like a freshman playing tentative, and a little high. Lion King played 2nd half, but didn't hear much from him, backup whose future will be determined in weight room. Williams redshirting, total unknown at this point, also needs to add 20-30 lbs prior to next year.
Losing POC, Brown, Dawson, and MacLean next year, so hopefully we have the luxury of getting a lot of the 2nd and 3rd guys reps in preparation for next year. If Dawson and Granger play well all year, wouldn't be surprised to see us add more Juco guys on the DL again next year.
