Same thing when Eastern fell behind by twenty-five points. Why keep running off tackle? How about a reverse, power sweep, screen pass? I did not like the play calling both offensively and defensively.
These were the worst homer referees in a long time. What a farce.

I think we'll see more of the playbook vs. Charlotte.

This game is a game for exposure to P5 football, collect the $, and get ready for the next 10 games.

Meanwhile in the MAC: Great losses, bad losses, crazy games, etc.

Miami lost to a FCS team. Kent is now, Sunday morning, in FOUR overtimes vs. N.C. A&T.

EDIT: Should have been Great WINS,...

Agreed. Definitely not blaming refs (as I said in my post), we got killed.

We made mistakes. I agree with your critique of play calling. I felt that when the going got rough in re first half, Coach C put his tail between his legs and stops being aggressive in anyway.

I also think some coverage issues could have been fixed with adjustments and nothing was done.

We got beat by a good football team. We made mistakes. Turnovers. Wasted plays. Bad penalties. Not a good look.

You know, I didn't expect EMU to win but I did expect them to show up, play tough and play the entire game. I'm not embarrassed losing to Missouri. However, I am embarrassed the way we lost. If we had played a penalty free and avoidable mistake free game and still lost by 40 I wouldn't have been happy but I wouldn't have been embarrassed. However, in too many ways this team looked like the teams from the past two.....seasons. Stupid penalties, stupid mistakes, a gassed defense, throwing stupid passes that end up being intercepted, dropped passes, etc. The best way this team can quiet its critics is the play good, penalty free and mistake free, football. Yeah, they'll still lose games but their percentage to win games will increase if they take care of the things they can control. You don't see good football teams making the same errors EMU does. EMU needs to act like they belong in the FBS/Div. IA football. Playing like chumps doesn't earn the respect of anyone. Rather, those who pay a passing glance at our football team will shrug it off and think nothing has changed.

If any of us performed our jobs like some of these fellas play, even when we were fresh out of college and close to their age, we wouldn't have had our jobs for very long. Like it or not, this is their job because they are being financially compensated through tuition, room and board, etc., for playing football at EMU. Some of these fellas, certainly not all, need to take a good, hard, look in the mirror and ask themselves if they're doing everything they can to help this program getting better or are they just along for the ride.

I want to know about Shaq.

Shaq is a game changer for our offense. We need him out there as a threat each time he touches the ball.

Any word on his injury? Would I guess he was 'dinged up' but not seriously hurt?

I was at an event last night and was not able to see the game. Set the dvr only to have them flip the game over to another channel.

So did someone else sit out on a suspension as eagletough indicated?

Sounds like our dbs are the weak link.

RE: Game Week: Missouri
I agree with the statement that the first game and the second game are not accurate reps of the team. I thought the team would fold after the punt return TD but they came right back. To win on the road and beat a superior team you have to avoid penalities, turnovers and big special team plays that let the air out of the team's attitude. We didn't do that last night.

Many teams will study this Missouri film and a pressure offense. Its up to the staff to "fix" and adjust the problem. We can also blame the secondary many with true frosh in the two deep but hey where was the pressure on the Missouri QB? And a positive the defense is generating more big plays this year but a negative you can't give that away by allowing the big play the next series.

Yes I was proud of the way we lost to LSU last year, it was a mark of progress. Not happy with the way we lost last night either. Coaching staff and players should be disappointed and vow this is the last game this year they give it away with turnovers, untimely penalities and allow the huge bomb which has been a problem for decades for EMU football.

I'm concerned about Vann as well, I don't see a great backup. Wonder if we'll see Wlllie Parker this year. Turner played last night. Thorton appears to be the player suspended, disappointing. These type of behavior problems need to stop as well. Porter athletic wise is better than I thought. Still learning to play at the FBS level but the ability is there. Honestly the staff did do a good job in recruiting him and the JUCO WRs. It was one thing to do it against Miss Valley but they all did decently against Missouri.

The next two games are critical. We paid poorly this game. We can't afford to do this the next two.

Hm Thorton appears to be the player suspended. Its easy to blame the DBs with the QB has all day to throw because of no effective pressure on the QB.

This post should piss off everybody here. That is such a loser's mentality and of course it is completely false. WMU, CMU, Ohio, Toledo, etc don't look at these games as "a way to collect $ and get ready for the next 10 games" and either does EMU. EMU played to win, just like they should. If you play a game just looking for $, you completely destroy the integrity of the game. You become a joke, a punchline for somebody's entertainment. That was not EMU's purpose and it and it NEVER will be.

I didn't give us any chance to win. I wasn't drinking the kool aid. I posted that we were a 17.5 :1 underdog.

When we play a P5 team, I believe he can be lucky and catch someone sleeping and play a competitive game.

Last night was the home opener for Mizzou with a new coach. Tougher than we thought it would be.

EMU FB has a long ways to go to become competitive.

But to say the EMU coaching staff didn't open the playbook against Missouri, so that they don't show Charlotte too much?! Not a chance! Any coach with a spine is going to try everything to win. Mizzou is probably not even going to be bowl eligible! It would not even be a shocking upset if Eastern won. It would have been nothing like CMU-OK State or Appalachian State v Michigan at the Big House. Thank god Creighton didn't have you give the pre-game pep talk.

I do think erikson is a viable back up but I'm also concerned about Shaq. Coaches didn't do well in some situations but this loss is on the guys. DBs played horrendously.

We got beat in every phase. It wasn't a good day. I felt good about the minimal mistakes against MSVU. We played a typical EMU game and got busted when things went south. They have to respond next week.

I still see us winning 4 to games. This was to be expected and though we gave more points than i hoped for i think we did play to quarters of even up football. I think we did beat the spread.

Not a huge issue with the 4 wins. BUT this is why it is so hard being a fan of EMU football. We expect so little! Four wins is a disasterous season for just about everybody else in the nation. Only at EMU can you nonchalantly predict 4 wins and it is not cause for panic.

It would be a step in the right direction, which is what EMU needs. It would not be an end goal for the program. You've got to start somewhere.

That would definitely be the issue. I didn't see much behind him. I do wonder about Willie Parker. He was supposed to have some ability but I haven't heard a word about him (did I miss something?). Ultimately, I do agree though, Shaq Vann is an All-MAC player and needed to boost that run game. I mean, he broke off 11 yards on his one carry last night.

Please do come back after the season is over to discuss your 3 game prediction.

Thornton was obviously the guy. Good news, we had a R-SR backup who did a great job, and the suspension was non-factor. Actually the snaps were much better from Hurcombe, and the line play was just fine. Great job Jake.

Bottom line, we're 1-1, and just lost to an SEC team, on the road, as 25 points dogs, without our starting QB, RB, and Center, AND with 2 TRUE freshman starting at DB........surprise, surprise, the sky is falling, the sky is falling! Haha.

The next 2 weeks will tell the tale.
