Ok, now I think I see why the freshman made the QB selection. He looks talented and in control. Can we keep this start going?

About as good as you can ask for in the first half. This fan base clearly cares 0% though as the main fan message board is crickets. History says to expect disappointment in 2h but they clearly can hang with PSU

SOS --- Special teams plus-6
defense plus-7
offense minus-6 (pick six).

I stayed away from the board so I didn't jinx the game. Defense still seems like it will keep the team in games so it is on the offense to find a way to put up points to win the game.

129 passing yards, 150 rushing yards. Hit their 13-point average from last year

Well like last year the defense outscores the offense - remember we avoided a shutout at Minn and Toledo thanks to the D02-13-banana

Rankin looked really good and I'm excited to see him up against MAC competition. He made it obvious why he won the starting position.

Played a very competitive first half and we have a lot of positives to take out of happy valley! BTW LOVED the uniforms, it's about time we changed it up!

RE: KSU vs PENN ST
Agner looks like a competitor. Didn't make many throws down field and was off target on a lot of his throws but in general he looked better than I expected. I'll be interested to see how much Mitchell pushes him for playing time. I thought Mitchell looked really good. His ability to run adds another dimension to an offense that lacks dimensions.

I liked what I saw from Rankin too. Looks like he could be a true feature back. Hopefully White is ok. We don't have a lot of size among the WR's so we need him.

Lastly, it wouldn't be a Kent St football game without a couple embarrassing moments. Our kick returner getting knocked back about 5 yards by their kicker will probably make the national highlights. Then having a big first down catch in the 4th quarter erased on an ineligible man down field... on the Tight End was pretty bad too. Anyways, saw some reason for optimism today. At the same time, we looked good against some bigger teams last year and still had a terrible season. So only time will tell I guess.

Just like a hundred other Kent games against big time opponents, somewhat competitive but really no chance to pull the upset.

Can someone explain to me why Kent has so much trouble recruiting quality players to the offensive skill positions? There are plenty of FCS programs who have better talent in the offense backfield. What is the problem with Kent?

I don't think it is a problem with the players but a problem with the play calling and development of the players. It is hard to win when you get out coached every week. Year after year we do the same plays in the same situations and it doesn't take much from a decent defensive coordinator to figure it out. I would also blame it on the lack of trying for the big play.

I pray I'm wrong, I believe the first half of the game will be one of the few highlights for this year.

Call me when we have a coach that has a mindset of wanting to win a game.

I think we have had as many new helmet designs as wins the last few years.

I'm with you here. It seemed like last year all the play makers on offense were freshmen. Now it seems like all the play makers are freshmen again. That tells me we're recruiting talent on offense. The issues seems to be development. Over the last several years I haven't seen a ton of development among offensive players.

Think about it....Bollas is now 3rd on the depth chart, and Reardon is a 4th string WR. Development is indeed an issue.

That stated, I thought Mitchell and Agner looked pretty impressive. The concern with Agner is his size....there were times where he seemed overwhelmed in the pocket and had no choice but to take a sack. Mitchell just seemed to have a better "view" and could react better to the rush. I was impressed with both, but man I'd really like to see more of Mitchell. Couldn't help but wonder what he could have done if he had all the snaps in the first half?

Rankin looks to be a real nice back!

Monday and Murray are as good as any tandem in the country. I truly believe that.

While I agree it is still water torture to ... in regards to building the program, fundamentally sound will ultimately trump razzle-dazzle as long as the talent is in place. You already see that on defense.

I think Kent saw that with Keith-Archer-Durham and a stud offensive line ... not a lot of gimmick plays just plenty of big basic plays by talented players. The question is ... will enough talent (which is improving offensively) get to Kent quick enough to avoid another 'transition.' ...

Man, I wish we would have given him some burn last year in that lost disaster of a season. I rarely post but did a few times last year about this. Anyway though, Kent not covering was a lock to me and they covered so a tiny moral victory I guess?
