This has implications for the conference pecking order. The TV contract says that Houston, Temple, UConn, and Cincy are "Group A", our most valuable members.

But with Temple now ousted while Group B schools like Tulane, USF, and UCF are still alive, well, Temple has now dropped out of "A", as the Big 12 ranking supersedes the four-year-old TV deal.

That was NBC with that clause. ESPN has a completely different opinion of value per member.

That is incorrect.

NBC Sports Network's contract divided the league into Group A (Connecticut, Cincinnati, Houston and Temple) and Group B (the remaining members), sources said. ESPN wanted UCF in the original Big East model with 10 teams for $10-13 million each.

Read the whole article. Especially the point about ESPNs right to match required ESPN to not only match the payout but the contractual terms.

Bottom line is that ESPN signed a contract with the AAC that has the four schools i mentioned as "Group A". So I was correct to characterize it as such.

That is simply not true.

I know you UCF guys keep repeating this but ESPN offered $10-$12 million/team once...when Pitt and Cuse were still part of the conference. When Pitt led efforts to turn down the deal the offer was pulled and the best numbers thrown around was $5-million/year when UL, WVU, Boise, TCU and SDSU joined the league for a few fleeting moments.

The bottom line is that Pitt, Rutgers and Cuse sabotaged the deal b/c they were secretly working with the B10 and ACC behind everyone's back. It didn't matter who was added b/c those schools were gone as was the money.

Yes, in early 2011, ESPN offered us a 9-year, $1.2B deal that would have worked out to $13 million a year for a 10-team Big East. But that was before Cuse, Pitt, WVU, and TCU bailed on us, and before UCF joined.

So half of group A is gone and we may lose only 1 of the remaining two if that. I honestly think it'll be BYU and Tulane. I just don't see UH getting the needed votes because of the Texas schools and the fact the rest don't want another Texas school. Cincy is also getting dogged by WVU who is a main sticking point in this expansion. So they add a school good in the two main sports and then add a big market to go along with it while also bringing good academics.

Would be devastating to those of us left if the Big 12 pulls a rabbit out of its hat and goes BYU, UConn, UCF, Cincy, Houston, Tulane. That would be a whole to big to plug.
