So the moderator chooses the topics? While each candidate gets a week to prepare, so it's probably fair, who has input on which topics the moderators decide on?

So you are already going to say that the fix is in? Shouldn't you at least wait until Trump makes a fool of himself?

The DNC connection to the "press" has already been revealed. How about agreeing the moderators need to go the extra mile and flaunt it? Why not make this be the most "transparent" moderators in history? Why not?

I'm actually shocked Wallace is doing the last debate. I'd have thought it would've been a lefty.

There definitely needs to be order. Jim Lehrer getting steamrolled in 2012 is something that cannot be repeated.

RE: Debate rules/moderators
I think it's possible that things are fair, but it's also possible that things aren't fair.

If they ask Trump about his taxes, but don't ask Hillary about the foundation, then it isn't fair.

Those are obvious. LESS obvious examples of unfairness would be to ask Hillary to describe her vision for the economy, and ask Trump to juxtapose his 'mnake America great' slogan with his corporations use of international businesses... or to ask Trump to describe his vision for foreign policy while taking Hillary to task over Benghazi.

Which is why, most often, the topics and the context of the questions ABOUT those topics are negotiated in advance. They can either 'gotcha' both of them equally, or neither of them. Both of which are fine with me.

Note that I personally don't care... Both could put on the performance of their lives and it wouldn't matter to me... but that is precisely how we ended up with Obama and his myriad of 'good sounding' lies. This is the game we've created for ourselves.... and here doesn't seem to be a damn thing that smart people can do about it.

RE: Debate rules/moderators
Number one, debates are a terrible way to pick a president. The last time either one of them will do anything requiring debate skills will be the final debate of this campaign--at least until the 2020 campaign. Why put so much stock into something that doesn't measure any skill that is relevant to job performance? Well, for one thing, we don't really have any good metrics for relevant job skills.

Number two, these aren't debates at all. They're combined press conferences. In a real debate the candidates would be throwing the issues at each other, not answering questions from media types.

It's a really stupid way to pick a president. Just like the primaries and the rest of the process. And maybe that's why it comes down to such poor choices.

Wallace is a weak and insignificant little man. He reminds me of the type that would marry someone who keeps a separate last name.

There needs to be another word for these things other than debates.

Exactly. I'd much rather see them "debate" each other than this.

RE: Debate rules/moderators
Should the chosen moderators back off of covering breaking political news?
I understand they have a reputation or they wouldn't have been picked, however, there is a distinct possibility that a true or perceived bias could be actuented/exposed/ or falsely placed on them by covering breaking news.

I think it's a fair question.

First question to Trump: "Have you always been a racist and xenophobe?"

First question to Clinton: "What is your dream for making America a better place?"

About the size of it, sadly.

This is why I the candidates should ask each other the questions, like Lincoln and Douglas, and reduce the moderators to just that, moderators.

I cant believe Candy Crowley is not on the list. Especially after protecting Obama the way she did.
