Official Hater Checklist
I can't count how many times I heard both of these last year:

1. Enjoy your win.....you're going to lose your coach.

2. Enjoy your win.....you're going to lose your once in a lifetime quarterback.

Ummmm......let me count the nopes.

1. Didn't lose our coach. Jeff Brohm is a unique guy. Comes from a football family. Played for his dad. Big family guy. His dad has told him to not run after the first money, that you don't get many chances to build something special.

That said he could easily be gone after this year. I've watched sports for too long. But I wouldn't be surprised to keep him for a couple more. He finally bought a house in the most exclusive area of BG. This area has really good schools for his kids. BG is a great place to raise kids. It's a nice size town and less than 2 hours from Louieville where all his family is from.

So a big ole mouthful of NOPE to the haters from last year saying he was gone. He's not. He's still patrolling the sidelines at Western.

2. No way I'm gonna ever dog out Brandon Doughty. What he did is once in a lifetime numbers. For real. He threw more touchdowns in 2 years than any quarterback in the history of the game. HISTORY OF THE GAME.

So many of the haters have sang chorus after chorus of "Western fans will find out how hard it is to replace a quarterback"

Thank you Mr. Obvious. We know how hard it is to get a productive FBS quarterback. The most important position on your offense. But we also knew we had a guy sitting out that had started for 2 years on an FBS team. A really bad FBS team in a rebuilding USF but started for them.

Perfect situation as a txfer. Sit out and learn the offense for a year behind your once in a lifetime QB.

I have more faith in Jeff Brohm than any coach that has coached at Western. In any sport. This guy is the total package. When he named White the starter about a week ago I felt good about White. You could see it in the way Brohm spoke of him.

I of course realize this is a 1 game sample and no way Mr. White comes even close to this kind of performance next weekend against Bammer. But I saw the throws he made tonight. I really liked what I saw.

So Haters.....get out your spoons and eat a big ole mouthful of NOPE. You know who you are. You know if you said either one of these.

Fully aware. It's why I said it. But Rice is a peer institution. A conference brother. Not an FCS game. The first bomb he threw he took hella lick. He saw it coming. He still planted and threw a strike knowing he was gonna get clocked. And he did get clocked. That told me he's legit.

He made very nice throws all night long. I had no idea what we were going to get from him. I liked his backstory and his potential. But nobody ever knows for sure until they hit an actual field against a real team.

Jeff Brohm might just be the QB whisperer. It doesn't hurt that his 2 brothers are on staff with him. That's a whole lot of QB knowledge from one family tree.

I'll take a new starter that can drop 5 bills on a conference foe in his first start for you.

To be fair, and I never called out your team, your line is gonna make a lot of things possible for that young man, too. In fact, I usually tell Herd fans to stfu till we at least beat you once.

RE: Official Hater Checklist
Don't have a clue how the other 11 go but I do know one thing...

when you put up over 500 yards against a conference school that is still on the list of possible Big12 schools.

It's not just "bad defense" or bad tackling....White was making good throws and down the field. And lets not forget, or maybe I'm just not remembering correctly....Rice was suppose to make major improvement on defense this year. The reason for that? They returned 9 starters from last year.

I think anyone that watched this game knows that White could have had 600+ yards if Brohm wanted to let him. But lets put the 517 yards against a defense returning 9 starters into context

S. Miss put up 501 yards (and I'm sure it could have been more if the coach wanted to)last year 75.7%
Western put up 424 yards (and I'm sure it could have been more if the coach wanted to)last year 74.4%
Baylor 366 yards 76%
Tech 303 yards 63%

White 517 yards 80% and not just short 5 yard passes

As I said and most fans know when a QB has the skills to make the throws..decision making is what separates the really good from the average and below. Tonight it was about as good as it gets on that end for White. So with that I'm not going to take credit from the kid by saying....

Rice's defense just sucked...9 freaking starters returned. There is only 1 school that returned more starters on defense than Rice. I did not check everyone but I did check Middle, S. Miss, Marshall and Tech....

all of last year there was ONE 500 yard passing game out of that bunch

Again it's one game....but a helluva game it was and from the sampling of post I read (which is not many) I see a person or two already taking away from the helluva game Mike White just had. Don't care if it was my hated rival .....

a player that had that game deserves more than to "blame it on Rice's defense"

RE: Official Hater Checklist
After Brohm left Louisville, Howard had him on staff at FAU for one season to give him a home and a job. I was REALLY hopeful he would stay and become the heir to FAU football. Dont get me wrong, Im pretty happy with Charlie Partridge. He has made great recruiting strides and we now have a great culture at FAU. Now it needs to transition to wins. But Brohm certainly seems legit.

Congrats on the win.

That was a sweet performance form Mike White last night. Overall WKU played a very sloppy game with a ton of mistakes.

I'm mostly impressed with the 80%. Have to give Brohm credit. Dude has cracked the code. He's a keeper.

That said, I will need to see more evidence of this before I put him on Doughty's level. As you know I'm a big fan of BD.

I kind of felt the same watching concerning the sloppiness. But that is the case for most early season games. Also there is an obvious emphasis on chop blocking this season. I saw 3 penalties in the first but didn't watch the second.

As far as White goes, he has a great deep ball. I know y'all have an excellent line and that showed. He had all day. I will be interested to see how he performs when/IF teams can get some pressure on him. That will obviously be crucial when Tech plays WKU.

Rice didn't look very good. Tough to go on the road against defending conference champs. Maybe they will improve. I think they sold out on stopping the run and WKU ultimately burned them bad.

the should've blitzed a single lb/db from all angles early to see what he had in the tank....

Rice never had a chance once the game settled in....

RE: Official Hater Checklist
To Collin and my boy Stinky.....even Brandon Doughty got happy feet under pressure. That includes last year too.

Fortunately for Brandon (and now Mike) we have a solid O-Line. We have a solid offensive coaching staff that I feel would make adjustments if folks start bringing the house to rattle the QB.

I watched the first half last night when I got home. Go back to that first bomb White threw from inside our own 10. He had a guy bearing down and bearing down hard yet still planted and slung it. Made me appreciate him even more.

I'm not ready to build a Heisman Statue out front of our stadium with White's face on it yet. But after a whole offseason of wondering who was going to step in it felt good to see what I saw last night.

We had a few rough moments and I am not saying we will win the conference. But I'm glad to see that we have a fighting chance after all the talk this offseason from everyone on here.

Yeah, but family trees in Kentucky rarely have limbs.
