I can't be upset with our defense. In fact, I believe we have the best defense in the country that is taught to tackle high. We might be the only ones that do it, but we're the best!
So what? It was the first half of the first game. I'm not a sooth sayer like many in here.. And I've never claimed to be all knowing about coaching. I do know I coached my son through pop warner from age 8 to his frosh year in high school. That core in pop Warner led his high school to an Illinois 8A state title his junior year and a top 15 national ranking. In fact, i helped coach the QB on that Illini team (Aaron Bailey), who was the back up frosh that Illini game. I've seen many games at all levels where players step up against superior competition. Has Tubberville made questionable calls? Of course! What coach hasn't? I do know that many of UCs recent losses were due to INTs in the end zone. Is that on the coach? The haters will thinks so. I though will call those on the players.

After hearing TT's presser last night, he seems to think Moore played fine. He is in for a long day against Purdue. Moore may be a practice all-star, but Kiel still gives this team the best chance to win on gameday. He talks about starting Moore over Kiel due to turnovers...but seems to be ignoring the stats from last season and the two Moore turnovers yesterday (which would have been four against DBs who can catch).

Right! I'm sure that's how they're coached. LMAO!

Maybe Kiel should be the QB...maybe he shouldn't. I know I'm in no position to determine that. What I do know is if we had the same outcome with Kiel playing we would have the same second guessing of TT in here. I'm no TT lover, I just try to be objective every game. I do know we're not Alabama. And our recruiting has suffered since the move to the AAC. I'm hoping for a B12 invite and hoping for the best on the field until then.

Hayden Moore...21/34, 260 yds, 2 TDs 1 int. With wholesale changes to the receiving core. Not a bad first outing. I was amazed by his performance in the Memphis game. I know it's in there. I don't know what TT sees in practice, but I'm sure not going to second guess him after this first game.

Kudos to you. CTT deserves to be questioned for his job performance thus far.

Thanks for finding that. I'm on my phone at work and was having trouble.

Could have been better. Could have been worse.
Look, I can see why no one trusts the decisions of Grandpa Tuberville. But I think I can trust a former NFL OC who has no previous bias, that Kiel is not the best QB for this team right now. Or maybe they think that Kiel is just another hit away from being injured (again), and they don't want to see the kid hooked on painkillers when that happens. Or maybe Gunner hasn't separated himself from the other QB's
enough in practice to where they feel comfortable going "all in" with him again only to see him get hurt or leave the team again.
Maybe Moore isn't the guy, but I don't think a change should be made just because a bunch of armchair QB's believe it should.

Clearly, Gunner was not the best qb in the last scrimmage open to the public. He did not look as good. The funny thing, trail imho looked the best. Trail did not wow me with good throws, but finding the open receiver. Moore finds triple coverage too often.
After he settled down in the second half, Moore made some smart plays. He just didn't do it consistently enough. He wasn't afraid to throw the ball away (he even did so in the first half). I remember one play where he didn't have anyone open and started to tuck the ball to run and in doing so, drew the defender off the receiver. He was able to throw to the receiver and get a first down as a result.
There were several throws that were off target. Hopefully that and confidence will improve with experience with the 1s.
They say the greatest improvement is seen between weeks #1 and #2. I hope that is the case for UC.
I don't know how well college and high school ball compare, but I saw a lot of high school teams look really good in week one (and their favored opponents not look so good), when they had the entire off season to prepare for the game. However, in week two, teams tended to revert back to the norm.
Hope we get by Purdue this week then pull off one of those Thursday night Nippert specials against Houston.
