Big 12 Expansion news
Just saw this from ESPN- Adam Rittenberger

The Big 12 has informed East Carolina that it is no longer being considered as an expansion candidate. Here's a statement from ECU chancellor Cecil Staton:

"I am proud of the support Pirate Nation provided to our efforts. While I am disappointed by the decision, I remain undaunted in my commitment to ECU athletics and the excellence displayed by our wonderful student-athletes, coaches and staff."

Big 12 commish Bob Bowlsby says, "As you know, we have never commented on who was or was not involved. We are not going to start now."

Biggest news from the @TheMediaGuides report would be apparent omission of Colorado State. Would have expected CSU to make the cut.

@ChuckCarltonDMN 3m3 minutes ago
If Colorado State, Boise and others are out, would leave BYU as only Mountain time zone team in Big 12 expansion process.

The way the Big 12 is handling this whole thing is beyond embarrassing.

Sounds like BYU will be out also down the road. As many stated before, expand had to go east.

RE: Big 12 Expansion news
there's many ways you can say it's embarrassing- but this isn't one of those. No one forced ECU to announce they were no longer being considered. It didn't come from the Big 12.

They name honest to god 20 SCHOOLS to the public, saying they will give everyone the same chance (they won't.) And then they don't have the decency to give official releases of who they are considering, instead they are calling the schools and simply telling them. Putting the pressure on these institutions to release statements, and thus having to publicly shame themselves instead of the Big 12 simply thanking each university and telling it how it is. What a joke.

Meh- IMO it would have been more of a circus to publically announce who was not moving on to the next round of consideration. Can you imagine the farce it would have been if Bob Bowlsby got up there and held a press conference that they were going to cut their list? That would result in questions from the media about each candidate, which in turn could potentially make some of those institutions look bad.

That being said to your first point I think announcing they were going through 20 schools was a bad move.

RE: Big 12 Expansion news
In some ways, ECU coming out with a statement actually helps their brand. "We are no longer under consideration from the Big 12" means they were, at some point or for some duration, considered for the Big 12. If they were considered today, it means they will continue be a consideration in the future - whether for the Big 12 or other conference (ACC).

They just need to solidify football with Montgomery and start something, anything, in basketball.

The Big 12 has not made any official comments on candidates or their process. Most of the news have come from reporters with sources (ie the 20-team listing by McMurphy a few weeks ago, Blauds' UConn intentions, etc.). The Big 12 would never make an official statement that would open themselves up to legal lawsuits/defamation by questioning candidacy of schools.

It is frustrating, especially for schools under consideration, but the Big 12 has not released anything - it is all from reporters who have their sources. With all the personalities involves in the process, I am actually shocked that more information has not leaked.

I think you are exactly right. The B12 didn't announce who was being considered. The B12 didn't announce ECU was no longer under consideration. To date other than the B12 announcement that expansion was going to be considered & candidates evaluated, there has been nothing of substance from the B12 office. Everything else has been speculation by the media. And someone will be right eventually, like a broken clock twice a day. When Bowlsby announces something, then you can believe it - or a school official when they tell you they are not being considered - everything else, not so much.

Is Chuck Carlton actually insinuating that ECU's public announcement corroborates the Blaudschun "word has it" pay-for-clickbait blog post??

Right. The Big 12 has never mentioned a single school, one way or the other. All this is media generated. They are the embarrassing players in this.

The only thing I see the Big 12 doing is taking such a long time to make a decision, and ever making anything about this public in the first place. But I think, initially a year ago, Boren felt the need to go public to pressure the other B12 presidents to get off their butts and make some decisions.

I get what you are saying- but what did Delaney do with the Big Ten when they expanded the 1st time? They announced in December 2009 of the possibility of expansion within the next 12-18 months.
