Backman cut by Packers
Former UAB tight end Kennard Backman got released by the Packers today. He was the only UAB player cut on the first day of roster cuts by NFL teams. There will be another significant roster reduction by the end of this week.

Backman was waived by the Packers on Tuesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN NFL Nation reports. Backman's release likely has something to do with the fact he's dealing with minor knee and hamstring injuries...

Backman (leg) was moved to the Packers' injured reserve list Wednesday, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. He's tending to minor injuries to both his knee and hamstring.

I am hoping Backman gets a chance on some team's practice squad to get his "wheels" game ready for next season. It has not been uncommon for UAB's pro prospects to have a slow start because of UAB's lack of conditioning / training facilities to get them competition "pro ready".
