My buddy said it would be $1B more in TV revenue if they went to 14 schools. He also thinks UT has to compromise on the network issue otherwise half the B12 will leave for other P5 conferences. Time and chance may actually be in our favor.......reminiscent of a certain Orange Bowl bid.

Just to clarify, the other TV network besides ESPN that I was referring to is Fox Sports , who are in the TV deal with ESPN and the big 12. Longhorn network is sitting this one out, as this involves payouts to the potential new Big 12 teams. Fox and ESPN get to sit at the table when the final teams are being discussed. The only number I heard was 25 million had to be paid to any additional new Big 12 member by these 2 networks. If the 1 Billion number is even close in TV revenue.... anything is possible.

I find it hard to believe as well but not really sure Boise fits the B12's expansion plan. It's all about the money. Boise is remote and doesn't have the media market.

The top 2 issues are cable market and geographical location. The expansion to 14 is in question because they will have to reach an agreement with ESPN and the other TV group. There was 1 school that did not apply to the big 12. Rumor has it that school was NIU. If that is even remotely possible that means somebody at least cared enough to have us submit. STF is either really happy or totally overwhelmed, maybe a little scared too! I think his plan was AAC and this caught him by surprise. We are still quite the long shot.

So what if a B12 AD had a friend work up a quick 6 page draft showing why NIU would be worth inviting to the discussion...

And based on my interaction with STF on Saturday he was extreamly fired up.

Frazier mentioned in the last Frazier's Corner he had direct exposure to the expansion process from his time in the BIG with Nebraska, Maryland, and Rutgers. Listening to the Q&A again though I have become increasingly skeptical NIU will be leaving the MAC anytime soon. If you read between the lines of what he is saying you can clearly see where the gaps are and why NIU won't be joining the Big 12 anytime soon, if ever. The market argument is mute unless you can prove out more substantial interest in your program with a significantly larger season ticket base and substantially better attendance. Having 3K season ticket holders and 13K in average attendance is not going to punch a ticket to any other league but the MAC.
