AState announces it will use a 2 QB system this year
At least to start the year. Chad Voytick will take the first two series, Justice Hansen will take the 3rd series, and they'll go from there.

Coaches have said this is fluid, and can change by the day, but this is a direct response to the issue we had last year in OOC Play when Knighten got hurt and an untested James Tabary had to play Missouri and Toledo. Coaches have said we were simply unprepared for that last year and it will not happen again.

As Anderson said today. "If Georgia Southern comes in week 5 and knocks our starting QB Out, we need to have an experienced backup ready to go so the offense doesn't lose a step."

It's also worth noting that we did not tackle live for 90 percent of our practices this year to avoid injuries, so both players need game experience against live tackling.

Live tackling doesn't matter.

Our QB's barely ever got tackled out of game situations and they were fine. Our tackling on defense was also some of the best it's ever been.

Should we be flattered, or did Sean Payton take over as our head coach while I wasn't paying attention?

This sounds a lot like what Fritz did with Ellison and Upshaw in 2014 and 2015. It might very well have cost us the game against Georgia Tech, but it also might've paid off in last year's bowl game and left us with a good QB situation for this season.

I would like to point out for about the 100th time. Ellison took HIMSELF out of that GT game. He landed hard on his shoulder after that long run and couldn't go back in.

I wasn't much of a fan of the two QB system when we ran it, but I think if you've got two guys who will be around for a while then it's worth giving it a go because like Anderson said you never know when you'll need the other guy to step in and really do something in an important situation. Otherwise you end up like the NFL and when your starting QB goes out you might as well call it a season.

not a problem early in the season to play both, staff experimenting in different situations, but if by mid season both are playing roughly equal amount of time, then you my friend have a problem, you know the old saying, if you have two starting qbs, than you don't have one starting qb.

I would see this as alarming being you guys were so high and set on the one guy as the starter. Maybe the backup is pushing him?

What makes you think we aren't using two QBs this year?

I should have clarified "when we began to run it"

Not having a competent back-up cost us any shot at Mizzou and Toledo last year.

RE: AState announces it will use a 2 QB system this year
I'm hoping the old conventional wisdom "if you have two quarterbacks then you have no quarterbacks" works out about as well as the wisdom about coaching turnover. That is, not at all when it comes to the Red Wolves.

From what the coaches said in the presser, Hansen and Voytik are VERY similar QBs and the offense doesn't have to change between them. I can see that working out.

My real concern (founded or not) is that we're using OOC games to tune up for SBC play, which is the opposite of what we need to do. For the good of the program, we need to win big OOC games and raise our stock.

Has it ever really been disproven though? (With offenses that throw passes I mean)

That will probably help you in the long run...it has certainly worked out well for GS. I wouldn't worry about it stAte fans.

It's because we have two guys who are essentially the same guy.

I think it's more of a situation of both QB's being identical in terms of skill set. There's no doubt that Voytick is far more experienced, but with so many quirky rules in College football requiring players to go off for a play, and the constant risk of injury, the coaches felt it made more sense to play both.

Could Ark St. fans be priming an excuse to under perform in OOC again?

Rushing for -14 yards in 24 attempts wasn't your QB's fault.

No

We won't even run a true 2 QB system.

It'll be 75/25 at best. Neither has fallen by the wayside and they offer nearly identical skill sets so he's going to let them both play and see if one emerges.

It'll give Hansen an advantage if he's ever truly needed plus he'll have some live time under his belt before next year when he takes over doe two years.

Sounds exactly like what we did with Ellison and Upshaw in 2014. Ellison got 75% of the snaps but Upshaw played enough that when we needed him in 2015 he really came through.
