Im not sure of that. The sec and big10 will never be left out. If the b12 champ is OU, they are out. If clemson beats fsu and then clemson stumbles against vpi or lville the acc is out. That leaves stanford and maybe notre dame. If notre dame losesband houston wins out the it could happen.

Wont matter. Bama is a machine.

All bama all the time. Thanks espn.

If Houston goes undefeated, I fully expect them to receive a B12 invite before the CFP starts and the media will champion them as a B12 team. I also expect that there will be some type of push where p5 schools will no longer want to schedule g5 schools to keep us out of the playoffs based on strength of schedule.

I realize people don't want want to jinx anything but no one here is actually playing the games, at least I don't think. It's fair to discuss the possibility.

The announcers said yes. Logic and fairness say yes. OP is right, this IS a test. Do they have the guts to really make it a wall no matter what? If so, the G5 may as well separate...

I don't agree with that, and IMO it sounds like preemptory sour grapes. Fact is, whether we like it or not, even if Houston goes unbeaten, that will NOT necessarily mean they deserve to be in the playoffs. If four other P5 conference champs go unbeaten as well, or if OK has a bad season so their win sours, then it is possible that four other teams will deserve the playoff spots.

Lots of football to be played. Houston needs to win all its games, hope OK remains a highly ranked contender (ideally, wins the Big 12), and that the AAC has a strong year so their overall SOS does not suffer.

If all those things happen, and they all very well might, I bet Houston makes the playoffs.

Bigger question is, if Houston makes the playoffs will the B12 invite them prior to the game so they can claim that a B12 team made the playoffs. COGS

RE: Now the test...if Houston goes undefeated...
Someone on here said something to the effect of Houston needing to go 1-0 each week. I think, being the first week of the season, it is WAAAAAY to early to talk about what happens within the AAC, let alone the CFP.

Think of it this way - EVERY game that Houston plays, here on out, will be the other team's "Super Bowl" - to be the team that defeats Houston will be a huge victory for that team.

I think many of us are undervaluing how difficult it will be to get through the gauntlet of the AAC unscathed. It's too early to predict how many of these teams will actually play throughout the rest of the season. I think USF has a really solid team this year - can Houston beat them? I don't know!

It also looks like UCF isn't going to roll over and die on every team this year - so that is another factor.

There are a lot of IFS that can play out - it's the glory of college football! A lot of game has yet to be played and we all know that that injuries can plague even the best of teams.

So sit back, enjoy your week 1 victories (sorry Tulane and Temple, I was pulling for ya...) and let's hope that all of our AAC brethren defeat as many of the OOC teams they play this year. It would be great to have conference victories over the likes of Louisville, Florida State, Michigan, Maryland, NC State, Syracuse, Virgina Tech, South Carolina (holy smokes, ECU - that is one HECK of a schedule you got there! ...)

The point being - there is a lot that has to happen this season. My hope each week is that my teams (Cincinnati, Florida State) go out there and win, one week at a time (but knowing Tuberville, each week is a gamble!)

Congrats again to Houston and the rest of the American teams that won this week. Keep the momentum moving forward (unit you face the Bearcats in Nippert or on the road).

04-cheers

The best part is Vtech and USC should both be much easier to handle than in years past. We're on a two game winning streak against Virginia Tech but we haven't beaten USC in ages. If we win convincingly the NCState game I fully expect us to have solid odds of taking our remaining non-conference schedule. Our depth is pretty suspect so I'd expect a couple conference losses along the way regardless.

We also have the potential to extend our winning streak against the ACC to 7 this year which would make me feel pretty good about things.
