How the middle class has already lost the election

Middle-class rage has dominated this election, but ultimately 2016 seems destined to produce not a populist victory but the triumph of oligarchy. Blame goes to a large section of the middle and working class itself, which, in rejecting political convention, ended up with a candidate who never would have served their interests. You can blame “elites” all you want, but in a republic, citizens need to act responsibly. And choosing Donald Trump doesn’t fit that description.

As an admitted life-long democrat, who now claims he's an independent, Kotkin's opinion on this topic means zilch.

His opinion means nothing because you are not what he is? Did you get past the first paragraph?

So....is this clown the new Miss Cleo? The election isn't lost because the election is still over 2 months away.

Another one who didn't read the article.

He said the middle class lost the election no matter who wins.

RE: How the middle class has already lost the election
The middle class will always lose if they continue to let the POTUS election to be this way. It's overrated and a BIG distraction from the offices that will matter to your every day life. This is an office that has effectively been run by people with little to no schooling, a few people who didn't really want the office, a first lady in one case, and someone with Alzheimer's. Just put someone in who knows how to place staff.

So this clown is the new Miss Cleo. Is this clown aware what happened to the old Miss Cleo?

Don't be so sure. Possible, but maybe not. Could be bad for the super rich and large corporates, but there could be benefits to the middle and upper middle class and opportunity for small and midsize business.

The middle class needs diversity of business. We need to stop propping up large corporations and let the best businessman win. The best businessman is small and mid tier business all across this country, not big corporate lawyers and lobbyists. Nothing Hillary will do will change this. Trump might. What do we have to lose?

If you want to see who really runs the system you need to go to the people that loan the money.

They occupy a rung above the big CEOs most people think of.

As the article points out, the Democrats won't apply anti-trust law to their favored industries-hi tech in particular.

The middle class lost a long time ago. Both parties are at fault.

The big CEOs are protected by language written by the lawyers, lobbyists, and legislatures over the course of many years. I don't blame them for taking personal advantage of the system. But make no mistake, they don't have to be a savvy businessman to be successful in their positions like a small business owner. They just need to be a figurehead.
