Stadium Design
Not sure if anyone on here knows the answer to this or not, but I'm curious about possible expansion of the new football stadium, should that ever be needed. Obviously we're expanding to 10,000 seats fairly quickly, but any idea where or how they would expand after that? You can't really add a second tier very easily on the home side because of the sky boxes, so where would they go next? I could see us potentially outgrowing 10,000 seats in the next 10-15 years, especially if we ever moved up in conference.

RE: Stadium Design
They chose this design similar to that of UNC-Charlotte due to the relative ease it can be expanded. You can build a second deck on the sides and horseshoe to add seats, you can completely enclose the stadium to add seats. This stadium with the right engineer could get to 30,000 easily, but it'll probably never need that.

RE: Stadium Design
Looks to me like the only place for expansion would be adding a 2nd tier on the visitor side. Doing that on the home side would directly block the sky boxes which would need to be moved. Closing in the entire thing in looks like it would be prevented by the field house and video board.

I think they could add about 5-6k on the east side by just adding a second deck. Expanding beyond that would mean they would have to build a deck on the west side and probably redo the sky boxes and press box.

I dont think we would need to expand beyond 16k any time soon especially if FBS would drop that average attendance requirement that is a farce anyway.

RE: Stadium Design
East side deck and endzone deck.

ETSU would have to tear down West side Press/Suite Tower to add deck.

Charlotte does not have a three story tower, but would not have to tear down their current press/suite area to add deck but would probably tear it down in favor of adding a new much larger press area and more suites.

One of the current requirements for admission to FBS is attendance at football games. ETSU would have to expand stadium to over 15,000 and average at least 15,000 paid for a two year period. Students and any unpaid admissions ( Band, etc. ) does not count in attendance.

Eastern Michigan has never averaged 15k. That rule is a farce.

Yeah it's a joke. I would think it goes away within the next 10 years when more conference shake ups happen

Eastern Michigan has over half their stadium covered in green tarps. It's really the saddest thing I've ever seen in relation to football.

Don't they also have the horrifying purple field?

It is actually a gray turf I think. Eastern Washington has a red turf though.

Maybe the lighting then. It makes my eyes twitch regardless.

RE: Stadium Design
One of the ugliest images of college tv football is empty seats. This is really glaring during FBS bowl season. Some of those games are played in virtually empty houses. Point -- a smaller place full sure beats a big place half full. Looks like ETSU will open its new place full. Keep it full and add seats as determined by demand. Personally, a game at a 10,000 seat stadium beats the heck out of viewing one from the clouds at a 100,000 seat place. Was Bristol wired so that many of those 150,000+ could actually see the UT -VT game on their devices? Many on here have said how nice the entire game day experience should be at the new stadium. It sure looks like something special is in the works for that to be the reality.

Incredible. The cost of this renovation would build four ETSU stadiums.

Although I don't at all agree with these rankings, it's mildly interesting to see all the variety:

SI ranks *field* (not stadium) designs

RE: Stadium Design
Speaking of stadium design; since the end-zone seating is not going to happen in phase 1, is there any chance that instead of putting it in phase 2 they pull together some more money and instead add an upper deck to the east side? Something similar to Mercer.

Likewise, I don't at all agree with these rankings. The author obviously likes artificial turf in artificial colors. Place me on the other end of the spectrum.

Ditto. Upper Deck makes more sense. Grassy areas for overflow.

Everyone keeps forgetting that they don't even have a field house built in phase one! Where in the world are the teams going to get changed and regroup at halftime? The fans will have bathrooms but what about the teams? Does anyone know what their plan is? I can't imagine he NCAA allowing something like this to happen. Are there temporarily structures in the plan? I can't find anything.

My guess is they will utilize the CPA which is right next to the stadium grounds, if necessary.
