BYU's opinion of Toledo is
That Toledo is the Toledo team of 2010....
They have the most threads I have ever seen ranking the dificulty of their opponents and predicting their win totals. About 20% of their fan base thinks we will be a worthy opponent with how our schedule lines up for them. The rest put us in the automatic win tier with Utah State, Southern Utah, and UMass. BEHIND the tier with Arizona, Boise State and Cinci... 3 teams we were better than one season ago.
When will fan bases/media/teams start treating us wih respect?
These are the teams that have not been happy with their performance against the Rockets in the past few seasons. Temple, BGSU, stAte, Iowa State, Arkansas. 2014- stAte, UNH. 2013- BG, Navy, Mizzou. 2012- Cincy, Arizona. 2011- Air Force, Temple, Syracuse, Ohio State, UNH.
In those 5 seasons I have been dissapointed against NIU every time. Ball State in 2012 and 2013, Florida is 2013, Cincy in 2014, and WMU last season. Thats it. Rarely do we choke away OOC games or not keep them competitive relative to the media or predictions. Youd think teams would look at how competitive we have been and think of us on a scale higher than UMass.

BYU would be a good win. But to say that their fan base should be afraid of us is unreasonable. We are a good MAC team. Period

will our defense be comparable to last year? if so, everyone on our schedule should be afraid. last year's team was one of the most physical and best conditioned in the country. almost all of those guys are back on offense. I like being considered an overlooked mac team and then coming out, playing fair and kicking people's as$.

Exactly...if our D can step up, we should be just fine.

BYU has a really challenging schedule (aside perhaps from UMass) so I expect their fans are looking to claim wins where they can----and they are banking on Toledo being of of them. I doubt that many BYU fans would predict a losing season at this point, but that is a distinct possibility, especially if they lose to the Rockets.

Well, if you were BYU, would you be that worried? Toledo is going to have travel to the mountains of Utah with an unproven passing game and a defense with a bunch of new faces. Not to mention, BYU usually has older players who have returned from mission trips any no history of playing UT.

Going to BYU on 9/30 Rockets are coming off a bye week after Fresno State on 9/17 in the GB. BYU is playing WVU in Landover, MD on 9/24
with the game time TBA. That's 6 days rest and Toledo game prep including travel back from the Mountaineers game. That's especially tough for a BYU short week.

You are who you associate with..........
Even if Toledo was the best team in the country. the MAC is full of teams ranked #100 to dead last in FBS. So that's how people see Toledo...... No respect for the MAC, No respect for Toledo because it's in the MAC........ I keep saying it.

You define the problem and probably correctly for the most part, but the real challenge is how to reach a solution which is an infinitely more difficult proposition, I believe. CUSA and the Sun Belt are no better than the MAC and do not offer more prestige, just more travel expenses (and less TV revenue at present)-----the P5 is beyond reach and that leaves only the AAC & the Mountain West, so how do you convince them to invite UT ---UT's NCAA Tournament revenue over the past 40 years certainly isn't going to peak their interest and while our attendance may be "OK" by MAC standards, it probably is not "OK" by AAC or Mt.West standards.
The most likely path to success IMHO is for UT to dominate the MAC to the extent that tOSU and UM dominated the B1G for many years, but I have yet seen any evidence that they are able to so----they sure haven't had to buy too many new trophy cases for MACC trophies......at least not for basketball or football lately.

I don't think this one game is going to change many people's perceptions about the program. If I recall correctly, almost everyone on that thread (including me) said that TK had done enough resurrecting this program that he had earned a few down years before anyone should talk about getting rid of him. Maybe one person said he should be fired.
On the other hand, if yesterday's game made you satisfied to have a .500 team, then I'm not with you on that.
Your first thought after a win is to try to ridicule people who don't even exist. I agree with a previous response to your post: just enjoy the win for a few hours and don't try to start a pissing match as soon as the horn sounds.

Agree. Maybe if Toledo went undefeated the last 5 years, the AAC gives it a look, but Toledo hasn't even been able to win the MAC west for a long time. It's also in media market saturated by Urban Meyer/OSU and Jim Harbaugh/UM mania. That doesn't leave much room for a 3rd place mac team. The win over Arkansas was big, but no one on a national level is going to remember that. A win over BYU would be great. Finishing the season strong for once, would be even better.
