JMU @ N. Dakota State on ESPN
So the Dukes are playing at ND State today and getting all types of national ESPN exposure along with the chance to knock off the 5 time defending champion on prime time TV tonight.
It is the only college football game today and will have all eyes on it.

Oops, my bad. JMU actually turned down this opportunity.
One of the biggest donkey decisions I have ever seen in sports.

I have already puked a few times this morning seeing Charleston Southern getting the exposure.

The crown jewel in the cluster f%#k that is our national branding strategy.

Nope - Prime time tonight.

Nothing to lose - everything to gain. Keep our name in the national spotlight.

Mindblowing.

But we're supposed to believe we our aggressively being promoted for a solid 1A option.

National spotlight. LOL. The NFL Preseason game tonight will outdraw that game. Just like hardly anyone watch Cal play Hawaii last night.

And you loud mouths still bitching about this would be bitching just as much if we had taken a one and done game with no return home game. You know it. I know it. Everyone here knows it.

I still don't care... we made the right decision. They didn't want to come to Harrisonburg. I have zero problem with JB wanting a home-home. It wasn't a fair deal. Period.

Let's say we actually took the game. Not really the best team to try out a brand new coaching staff and system. We would have gotten crushed. Don't fool yourself, we would have gotten absolutely crushed on national TV.

For those that don't know either team that watch, if you think the away team is going to get any love you're fooling yourself. It's gonna be an NDSU love fest. Oh yeah, and they're playing some other team too. We've complained about that in the past. This is no different.

Maybe JMU gives them a game. Maybe they win.

I just don't understand the mentality that they shouldn't take on challenges that are good for the program/university. It's totally foreign to me.

An early game against a good team could help prepare the team for a tough CAA schedule.

Maybe they will expand the playoffs to 32 so 6 wins gets in and JMU can schedule some better OOC games.

Unfortunately some of our fan base don't like competition. I have a hard time understanding how someone can be a sports fan and not like competition. The 2 words are synonyms to me. Sports =competition.

I thought that's what sports is supposed to be about. Pitting two opponents against each other to find out who is better. Not guessing who will be better; not conceding a win because one looks better on paper than the other; but actually playing the game to find out who is better.

Avoiding competition is a common characteristic of limp wristed weinies. Fact.

It looks like on the description that ESPN is billing it as the third annual FCS kickoff. I hope JMU pushes to be included in future games.

Who avoided competition here? Is it true that JMU was going to sign the contract if given a return game?

-Montana got a return game from NDSU in a 1 for 1.
-EWU is getting a return game from NDSU in a 1 for 1.
-UD is getting a return game from NDSU in a 1 for 1.

How did all of them manage and JMU not? Is it JMU's fault that a return game couldn't be worked out? Or is it NDSU's fault?

I don't understand the mentality that JMU shouldn't get a return game & be treated as a lesser program than Montana, EWU, and UD. Totally foreign to me.

Forget the word shouldn't and replace with didn't...JB didn't follow up the gift of a lifetime, Game Day with a national ESPN game inside of a year...by choice03-banghead Footage of JMU/NDSU GameDays would have be on national television again. I am not worried this is the man that is supposedly leading the charge to get a conference invite03-weeping

I guess I would say that if/when JMU wins four straight national championships they will be selected to host the game by ESPN and can dictate the terms to a prospective opponent.

I will never know how hard JMU tried to work out a home and home, I won't ever know if NDSU is scared to play @ JMU. I do know that Delaware got a home and home. Did they work harder? Were they smarter about it? We're they more accommodating on dates? I don't know. What I do know is JMU passed up a chance to play the reigning National Champion on ESPN and instead will play Morehead to start the season next week.

I think they should have taken the game.

Maybe they win. Maybe it's an all time FCS instant classic. Maybe the AAC commissioner is watching.

I guess the analysts and producers didn't get the memo. They just highlighted 3 impact players. A RB from NDSU and a defensive end and nose tackle from Charleston Southern.

While I share many of the opinions of those who feel that JMU has sat back and monitored entirety too long, I wouldn't have wanted App to take a one-off visit to NDSU, either. In this case, the JMU administration acted wisely.
