In-depth look at the MAC by the Buffalo News
A great look on the state of the MAC by the Buffalo News. Key insights:
-- Buffalo is not interested in the AAC. It's too expensive for them. The AAC would generate slightly more revenue than the MAC, but budgets are much bigger in that league.
-- According to the writer, the MAC has clearly passed Conference USA now. The writer argues that, on the field at least, the MAC might be stronger than the Mountain West.
-- At Akron, Terry Bowden suggests (in jest) a bring-a-mannequin-to-the-game promotion. If 10,000 fans show up, bingo, you've filled 20,000 seats.

RE: In depth look at the MAC by the Buffalo News
I didn't like some of the quotes from coaches talking about how the MAC is little league.
That players are smaller and run 4.8 40 yard dashes ect. That was the MAC of 25 years ago.
The MAC just as recently as a few seasons ago had the #1 pick in the NFL draft. Like the Missouri Valley in basketball, the MAC in football absorbs and overflow of B1G caliber player in the region.
MAC schools almost face no G5 competition for players in their backyard. Cincinnati but they are moving to the B12. However the MAC can effectively recruit against other G5 programs in their backyards which is an advantage.
Ohio as an example is able to leverage the advantages of more home games by playing 6 a year and loading up on an easy non-conference schedule. That scheduling philosophy was unheard of years ago when the MAC would go on murderers row desperate for a payday to have any money. Ohio is scheduling easy money games at Boston College and Virginia, then CUSA/SBC/FCS schools. Doing the same thing in basketball by playing as many home games as the top P5 programs.
1st round draft picks, 4 teams ranked during 2012 season.....that isn't little guys football at all.
