I was told about this yesterday by one of the ODU Associate Athletic Directors, and it puts ODU in some pretty good company:

You should start another category to discuss that topic in as it doesn't change the facts this that list is based upon. If ODU had won an NCAA Tournament game each of the past two seasons they would not have had enough wins to have made this list of Top 20 In Wins over that same period.

Not saying that a couple of NCAA Tourney wins would not have been nice, but still ...

VCU's total is 51 the past two seasons, so there's another positive.

Not the most important metric

52 wins in 2 years is impressive. But I would take less wins (NIT, Vegas 16) for a couple of NCAA appearances. VCU has one less win than us and has had 2 NCAA appearances. I don't mean to be the Debbie downer but it is what it is

Pretty sure that is the feeling that everyone else has too, but it still doesn't detract from this accomplishment.

VCU & ODU each has 1 win against the other during the past 2 years. In fact, from 2005 - 2015 ODU and VCU faced each other 24 times with VCU winning 13 times and ODU winning 11 times. Just 1 more win by ODU and it would have been all even at 12 a piece. The majority of the 24 games were played in Richmond with 14 played there, and only 10 games played in Norfolk. I have to think that if the games were split evenly then ODU would have at least picked up 1 additional win.

Fair enough point. I did say in my first sentence that it was impressive. But JJ and the team need to translate this success to winning the conference and making it to the big dance. I have a lot of faith in my Monarchs and even without Freeman and the others who left I think we're in for a big season

It is a nice statistic, but clearly a deflection from what really matters which is NCAA appearances and wins.

The best thing about stats is that you can state them any way you want to make your point. Thanks to my ODU statistics professor for that.
